AP European History Lincoln Gravatt Syllabus The Course The AP European History course is a college level survey of the major political, diplomatic, economic, social, intellectual, and cultural themes in European civilization from 1450 to the present. The course is organized chronologically beginning with a review of the later Middle Ages and ending with a survey of present trends in Europe. Document analysis, critical and analytical thinking skills, and understanding of cause and effect relationships are particularly emphasized. Excerpts from primary sources are included in every unit, on a daily basis. Grading Grades fall into two groups: major and minor, with major grades making up 65% of the quarter grade and minor grades comprising 35% of the quarter grade. Major grades include unit tests, DBQs and other thematic essays. Minor grades include FRQ’s, class work, homework assignments, readings quizzes, article critiques, and vocabulary quizzes. Unit tests consist of multiple-choice questions and an essay, many times an essay taken from released AP exams. Occasionally tests may also include matching items and short answer questions.
