Arteries carry blood from the heart Capillaries have very thick walls Capillaries connect arteries and veins Veins have no valves Arteries carry oxygenated blood Veins carry blood towards the heart Arteries carry deoxygenated blood Veins have a large space inside Capillaries have valves to prevent the backflow of blood What does the heart do? • The heart is a muscle that pumps blood around the body • It pumps oxygenated blood from the lungs around the body • It pumps deoxygenated blood from the body back to the lungs Now look at the heart animation!
