Protein Synthesis Homework
Draw a diagram to accompany each of the five statements which outline
protein synthesis.
1. The genetic code is transcribed from one strand of DNA into a strand of
mRNA.
2. mRNA moves out of the nucleus through a pore to a ribosome
3. tRNA with the appropriate anticodon lines up on the mRNA, the codon
on the mRNA determining the sequence of tRNA.
4. The amino acids brought together by the tRNA join to form a protein.
The sequence of amino acids determines the nature of the protein.
5. The tRNA returns to the cytoplasm to become reattached to its specific
amino acid.
6. Summarise the information about nucleic acids in the table below:
Type of nucleic
acid
DNA
mRNA
rRNA
tRNA
Function
Site of function
Site of origin of
nucleic acid
7. Make up your own codons and work out from the diagram below the
amino acid sequence which would result.
mRNA codons
amino acids
8. Show that you understand the relationship between DNA and protein
synthesis by completing the table below:

GCT
UUC
UGA
GGG
