Geography Country Project – Latin America
Project gives you the opportunity to explore issues we have learned in class on a more general scale and relate
them specifically to one country. The country project will consist of the following required components and
questions:
The Travel Agent Scenario
You are a group of travel agents tasked with increasing tourism in Latin America. Your task is to create
a brochure/PowerPoint Presentation/Skit/Research Paper that would serve as a promotion for the country
you choose to attract tourists or even foreign investment from businesses.
The end product must include the following list of components:
1) A title which introduces your country with images of the flag of your nation and country.
2) Sections should be dedicated to creating a historiography of your country. Elements in this
historical presentation should include a 1) timeline of significant events that took place in or
shaped the face of your country’s history, 2) identify important historical figures associated with
your country and 3) identify locations of historical significance. You should approach historical
information that is positive. People won’t like the negative. ALSO, you should highlight these
items with visuals.
3) Sections providing descriptions both written and visual of the cultural aspects of your country.
These sections should show/discuss: major religions, politics/government, food, ethnicity,
and any special clothing/holidays/practices/etc. You should approach this information as
providing a pleasant description of your country’s culture to foreigners.
4) A portion should be dedicated to the economic resources and capabilities of your nation. This
should include things such as: GDP stats, value of currency (exchange rate to US $), available
resources, etc... You should approach discussing economics facts as selling the marketability of
your country.
5) A map of your country which presents major physical (mountains, rivers, etc.) and political
(boundaries with neighboring nations, cities) features of your nation (can be two separate maps if
necessary). You should also highlight locations fit for tourism or business investment.
The choice of country will be up to you, however the more bizarre the country you pick the easier I will be on
grading you (for example, if you pick a well-known country like Mexico, Argentina or Brazil, expectations on
making a spectacular brochure are going to be VERY high…if you pick a country like Trinidad and Tobago,
then my expectations will be lesser but still sticking to the overall grade rubric).
