Coordinate-A point that corresponds to one and only one number on the ruler.
Distance-The absolute value of the difference between any two points.
Length-The distance between any two points.
Congruent segments-Segments that have the same length.
Construction-A way of creating a figure that is more precise.
Between-Given three points A, B, and C, B is between A and C if and only if all
three of the points lie on the same line and AB+BC=AC.
7. Midpoint-The point that divides a segment into two congruent segments.
8. Bisects-To divide into two congruent parts.
9. Segment bisector-Any ray, segment, or line that intersects a segment at its
midpoint.
10. Coordinate plane-A plane that is divided into four regions by a horizontal line and
a vertical line.
11. Leg-The two sides that form a right angle in a right triangle.
12. Hypotenuse-The side across from the right triangle that stretches from one leg to
the other.
13. Rise-The difference in the y-values of two points on a line.
14. Run-The difference in the x-values of two points on a line.
15. Slope-A line is the ratio of rise to run.
16. Point-slope form-A line is y-y1=m(x-x1), where m is the slope and (x1, y1) is a
given point on the line.
17. Slope-intercept form-A line is y=mx+b, where m is the slope and b is the yintercept.
18. Conditional statement-A statement that can be written in the form if p, then q.
19. Hypothesis-The part p of a conditional statement following the word if.
20. Conclusion-The part q of a conditional statement following the word then.
21. Truth value-Either true or false.
22. Negation-A true statement is dales and the false statement is true.
23. Converse-The statement formed by exchanging the hypothesis and conclusion.
24. Inverse-The statement formed by negating the hypothesis and the conclusion.
25. Contrapositive-The statement formed by both exchanging and negating the
hypothesis and conclusion.
26. Logically equivalent statements-Related conditional statements that have the
same truth value.
27. Deductive reasoning-The process of using logic to draw conclusions from given
facts, definitions, and properties.
