Course Proficiencies Algebra B Spring – 1st semester of Geometry Students will demonstrate the ability to: 1. describe a pattern and sketch the next figure in a pattern. 2. complete a conjecture and find a counterexample. 3. name points, lines, planes, collinear points, coplanar points and coplanar lines. 4. name the intersection of two points and two planes. 5. find the distance between two points; find the distance by adding or subtracting. 6. name an angle, classify angles and measure angles. 7. use the midpoint formula. 8. define bisector of a segment and an angle. 9. define complementary, supplementary and vertical angles. 10. identify hypothesis and conclusion to write if-then statements and their converses. 11. use the Law of Detachment and Syllogism. 12. name the properties of equality and congruence. 13. identify parallel, perpendicular and skew lines. 14. apply theorems about perpendicular lines. 15. identify corresponding, alternate interior, alternate exterior and same side interior angles along a transversal of two lines. 16. use the theorems on corresponding, alternate interior, alternate exterior and same side interior angles along a transversal of two parallel lines. 17. use theorems to prove that two lines are parallel. 18. use properties of parallel lines. 19. determine the relationship between the slopes of parallel lines. 20. find a translation of a figure. 21. classify triangles by sides and angles. 22. use the triangle sum and exterior angle theorems. 23. use the base angle theorem and its converse, and the equiangular and equilateral thereoms. 24. use the Pythagorean theorem and its converse. 25. use the distance formula. 26. determine if a triangle is acute, right, or obtuse according to the lengths of its sides. 27. use the triangle inequality theorems. Progress indicators: Daily assignments, teacher made tests and quizzes, graphing calculator labs, computer labs, and cooperative learning activities.
