Personification is when you give human-like qualities to something that is not human. We have
been learning about this in language arts and now you are going to apply this knowledge to
social studies. You will select a state to bring to life through the use of personification. Your
project will follow the guidelines stated below. Have fun and enjoy this exciting project. Don’t
forget to take pride in your work and strive for accuracy as you complete your state project.
Don’t STEAL ideas by copying them directly from the
text. Instead, use the strategies offered in class to help
you become a strong researcher!
PROJECT DUE DATE:
Step I: Select a state. (Done in class): ____________________________________________
Step II: Research and complete the planning page for your state. (Due)
Step III: Draw your state freehand on a piece of 8.5” x 11” oak tag. (Due)
Step IV: Label the states that border your state to the north, east, south, and west. If a
major body of water borders your state please include this essential information.
Include a compass rose. (Due)
Step V: Personify your state by including its climate, natural resources, physical features,
culture, capital, and major cities. If necessary, include a legend. (Due)
Step VI: Check your work to see if you have included all the pieces, if you did your best work,
and if your information is accurate according to research. Spend some time adding
color to the assignment, using strategies learned in art class to help your project
stand out when presented on a bulletin board. Share your final product with a family
member before you present it to your classmates. (Due)
