Currently, we are learning about the Human Immune System. We have been
talking about infectious diseases and how they spread. The movie I would like to
show to the students lets them see how an infectious disease spreads, and how
a global pandemic can occur. It shows how medical researchers and public
health officials identify and contain the disease. It also explains how vaccines
are developed and used.
Title of the movie: Contagion (2011)
Rating of the movie: PG13 for brief violent images, language, and some
sexuality.
Plot summary: Contagion is a medical thriller directed by Steven Soderbergh.
The cast include Marion Cotillard, Matt Damon, Laurence Fishburne, Jude Law,
Gwyneth Paltrow and Kate Winslet. The film documents the spread of a virus
and how the medical and health officials identify and contain the disease. It also
shows the loss of social order in a pandemic and finally the introduction of a
vaccine.
If you do not wish your child to participate in viewing the movie, please state this
when you sign. The student will be given an alternate assignment and will join
another class. The movie will cover several school days from 2/3/17 -2/8/17
