Welcome to AP World History for the 2014-15 school year. If you haven’t realized it yet, you will be doing an astonishing
amount of work in preparation for the May 2015 AP World History Exam. This begins NOW. That is, your first semester
reading begins your quest for a “5” on the AP World Exam!!! We will cover the first 1/3 of the book fairly quickly, so it is
a good idea to read as much as you can from the text.
Assignments:
Map Activity
Directions: Label or number a world map with the land and water features listed below in the color indicated in
parenthesis. This is to help refresh your memory of geography. There will be a map test on the 3rd day of school. I will
collect the maps on the day of the test for points (25 points). If you lose the map, there are plenty of maps on line you can
print out which are acceptable.

Writing assignment (20 points)
You are to research through time and find an important figure from history (leader, inventor, thinker,
and etc.) that most resemble you. Examples of items to look for: similar culture, language, religion, geography,
beginnings, potential military training, desire for the future, and etc.
You are to hand-write a minimum of 7 paragraphs compare/contrast the figure and yourself. Due on
2nd day of class.
Extra assignment: NOT REQUIRED BUT STRONGLY SUGGESTED
Outline Chapter 1 (5%of your exam) from your textbook. I have included 2 webpages that have our textbook
on pdf of Chapter 1. If you have issues with the websites please contact me. I have included in your pack from
school a copy of the table of contents of your textbook World Civilization: The Global Experience 4th edition if
you decide to outline additional chapters. Goal for next year is for you to have your textbook in your hand on
the 2nd day of school (Friday) Chapter 1 will be due on that Monday. (Subject to change upon when we receive
the book)
