Textbook: Human Heritage A World History, Greenblatt and Lemmo. 1995
Course Description: Ancient World History is a year long survey course beginning with
prehistory and concluding around 1500 C.E. The course emphasizes the traditional
political-diplomatic account of world history, as well as an exploration of the
environmental, social, political, religious, intellectual, and cultural factors that have
shaped the world in which we live.
Objective (Year): Through the study of World History, a student will gain an
understanding of continuity and change within and across eras of time. They will become
familiar with the accomplishments of civilizations like Mesopotamia, Egypt, Greece,
Rome, etc. As we study many different civilizations, students will also continue to
develop their reading, writing, and critical thinking skills that will be helpful in future
academic activities and provide enduring skills for life beyond high school.

Keys to Success:
Students need to be organized. Come to class with text, notebook, pencil, journal,
portfolio folder and agenda mate. Use agenda to record homework assignments.
Parents should check to make sure students are getting homework done. If
necessary, check lesson plans on school web site. Use online gradebook access to
keep up with childs grades and/or email me if questions.
Materials Needed:
Student provides- 3 ring Binder with a notebook or notebook paper, pencil, folder
School provides- Textbook, Agenda Mate, Journal
Learning Activities:

Grading:
Grading is done using straight points. If a quiz is worth 15 points and a test is
worth 50 points, the total points scored on all assignments will be added together and
divided by the total points possible. This is how the marking period grade will be
configured. Parents can access their child’s grade for all their classes using the parent
portal of Redikers
Homework:
Homework may be given several days out of the week. However, my
assignments usually will only take 10 minutes or so to complete and could be finished in
class, in study hall, or perhaps homeroom.
Opportunities: Get involved in activities!
Sports- football, cross country, volleyball, wrestling, basketball, etc.
Clubs- SADD, Student Council, etc.
Band and Chorus
