10.6 Monohybrid and Dihybrid Crosses Assignment
Part 1
Traits are physical characteristics that are inherited, such as hair color or eye
color. Gregor Mendel used monohybrid crosses to predict how traits are
transferred from parents to offspring. A cross between parents differing in only
one trait is called a monohybrid cross because mono means “one.” A cross
between parents differing in two traits is called a dihybrid cross because di
means “two.”
The Genetics PowerPoint shows the steps to completing a monohybrid cross and
determining the possible traits of the offspring.
Visit the following online tutorial to review the steps involved in a monohybrid
cross.

Gregor Mendel also used dihybrid crosses to predict how traits are transferred
from parents to offspring. A cross between parents differing in two traits is called
a dihybrid cross because di means “two.”

Write down the steps as you are going through the tutorial. Note: You will be
responsible for filling in a dihybrid cross on the quiz, so pay attention!
Steps for dihybrid cross (the first word of each step has been written in for you so
you know what the step is in the tutorial):
1. Draw…
2. List…
3. Fill…

5. The following is a cross between two pea plants. Fill in the punnett square
and answer the questions.
R = round, r = wrinkled, Y = yellow, y = green.

6. Is this a monohybrid or a dihybrid cross?
7. What are the two dominant alleles? What are the two recessive alleles?
Examine the offspring in the shaded square.
8. What is the genotype?
9. What is the phenotype?
