Your bird's diet is one of the most important considerations in its overall care. Parrots eat a wide variety of foods in the wild and will thrive on many of the same foods
maintained in a healthy human diet. Beesley’s Beaks-N-Barks advocates using Human Grade and Organic Foods exclusively. Even the healthiest diet and intentions can use
additional help; and that is why I use and recommend the AviTech Premium Nutritional Supplement Line to enhance your parrots overall health and well being. The items
pictured below are what I recommend for additional “Daily Maintenance and Feather Conditioning”
Avi Vita Plus
Featheriffic!
Avi Cal Plus
Avi Flax Gold
Avi Greens
Avi Glo
Grains, Breads, Cereals - These foods in combination with vegetables can make up approximately 50% of your parrot’s daily food intake. My favorites in this food group are:
Avian Organic Breads
Organic Cooked Brown Rice/Pasta/Quinoa
Avian Organics Mash Meals
Organic Fresh Vegetables - Vegetables should account for 45% + of your parrot’s daily diet. Fresh/Frozen/Dehydrated vegetables are best served for vitamin content. With
recent concerns over outbreaks of E-Coli , Salmonella, etc…my Just Tomatoes Etc…Organic Veggies line offers a wonderful alternative; giving your parrot the opportunity
to experience vegetables in a dry crunchy form or they can be rehydrated to a soft state. My favorites veggies include / but are not limited to:
Carrots
Sweet Potato
Peas
Fruit – Most Fruit should be offered in limited amounts due to their high water, sugar, and acidic properties. Fruits (especially berries which are high in antioxidents)
however in combination with the protein and calcium foods that follow can make up the remaining 5% of your birds daily intake. Recommended fruits:
Blueberries – Raspberries – Mulberries – Cranberries
Protein Foods - Protein foods include nut meats or other mature legumes (cooked beans) Here are my favorites:
RAW Almonds, Walnuts, Cashews, Pistachios
Beesley’s Beans – An Organic 7 Bean Blend Mixture
Calcium Foods - Calcium is essential to all parrots; especially laying hens & African Grey’s. The purest form available is my Avi Cal powdered calcium supplement
& should be sprinkled lightly on dry or soft foods daily. Cuttlebone is an inexpensive alternative, but it is hard to find in a clean form
Seed - Your bird doesn't need seeds for a “complete diet”, but I believe they should be offered - especially as an occasional activity food – Only offer Organic or Human
Grade blends to meet safety & cleanliness requirements. Please avoid commercial the seed mixtures currently found in today’s pet food market
Pellets – Quality Organic Pellets/Baked Foods are designed for parrot feeding today & can supply many of the essential nutrients found in the above mentioned foods and
can be a healthy time saving substitute. The formulations I recommend below are believed to supply the complete needs of parrots and can be fed to the exclusion of
other foods; but please supplement with vegetables, fruit, and proteins for activity, variety and extra nutrition. Pelleted type foods are particularly valuable to busy
families who do not have time to prepare fresh foods daily or for birds that refuse to eat a balanced diet. Please do not use any pellets that contain any form of
preservatives -BHA / BHT / Ethoxyquins, or Sugars (synthetic colors) Beesley’s Beaks-N-Barks recommends only the following pellets / baked food formulations:
