Eat a variety of different foods
No single food can supply all nutrients in the amounts you need.
The five main nutrients are protein, carbohydrates, fat, vitamins
and minerals. Eating a variety of foods will make sure that you
achieve a diet which is balanced. To follow a balanced diet you
should eat a variety of different foods in moderation. This however
may cause problems as many people do not know how to get this
balance right.
The eat well plate is used to make healthy eating easier as it gives a
visual representation of the types and proportions of foods people
need for a healthy and well balanced diet.
The eat well plate shows that we should eat:
plenty of fruit and vegetables
Plenty of bread, rice, potatoes, pasta and other starchy foods
Some milk and dairy foods
Some meat, fish, eggs, beans and other non-dairy sources of
protein
Just a small amount of foods and drinks high in fat and/or
sugar
