Decidious Trees
Autumn Blaze® maple
Acer fremanii, 'Autumn Blaze'
If you want a large, fast-growing tree with spectacular fall color,
Autumn Blaze® maple is an excellent choice.
The Autumn Blaze Maple™ is a hybrid of two famous trees, the red and silver maples, and it soon
surpassed them in looks and popularity. It captured the two trees' quality characteristics, such as
brilliant red color, dense branching, and rapid growth rate.
This is a clearly superior tree that you won't see in the big box stores for another 10 years. They
only carry trees once the general public is familiar with them. As a result, they offer cultivars that
may be disease and insect prone.
Crimson King Maple
'Acer platanoides' 'Crimson King'
Crimson King Maples are known for their striking, rich purple foliage in colder climates… being
one of the few trees to give you excellent color in the northern states. It doesn't matter what soil
you plant your trees in... your Crimson King Maples will give you beautiful color anywhere.
These trees will give you long lasting color. They keep their purple foliage from spring until fall!
Matures to a height of 40-50 ft., the perfect height for a shade tree. Your Crimson King Maple
will give you dense shade, blocking the hot sun from your home and yard.
Marmo Maple
Acer freemanii Marmo
Marmo Maple is a fast grower, with a broad-columnar form and a strong central leader. Disease and insect
resistant. Prized for its brilliant orange-red fall color. Temperatures and site conditions determine fall color.
Adaptable to heavy clay soils. Matures at 70'; 35-40' spread. (zone 4-7) Needs full to partial sunlight.
Pacific Sunset Maple
(Acer truncatum platanoides 'Warrenred')
Small compact hybrid of Norway Maple. Dark green, glossy foliage turns yellow-orange to red in the fall.
Tree has a rounded shape.
Oak (bur)
Quercus macrocarpa
The Bur Oak tree, is a long-lived majestic oak tree. It is also called the Burr Oak. The Bur Oak
is a tall, fairly slow-growing, long-lived tree, highly desirable for windbreaks, shelterbelts and
ornamental use. It has an impressive crown with a massive trunk, which makes it a
picturesque specimen. Bur Oak trees adapt to various soils where other oaks may fail.
This deciduous tree is tolerant to urban conditions. Autumn colors are yellow-green, yellow,
and yellow brown. The tree will bear acorns in the nursery in ten years.
Swamp White Oak,
(Quercus bicolor)
Is a beautiful native tree with lustrous, heavy textured leaves with wavy margins. This rugged
oak grows well in either upland or swampy areas. It is tolerant of poorly drained sites and
frequently is found in heavy mucky soils. The Swamp White Oak is a rapidly growing tree that
flowers in spring. The acorns mature and are shed in September or October of the same
year. This deciduous tree has a rounded open habit. Swamp Oak trees transplant easily. It
casts dense shade. The sweet acorns are eaten by whitetail deer, mallards, wood ducks, wild
turkeys, squirrels, woodpeckers, and smaller rodents.
Heritage River Birch (Tree Form)
Betula Nigra Heritage
• Distinctive bark provides visual interest all year-round
• Withstands even the harshest of weather conditions
• Extremely low maintenance
River Birch Trees are loved for their papery cinnamon bark and graceful crown. Their leaves turn
bright yellow, telling you that fall is on the way. Very popular for landscaping because of its
distinctive bark and graceful shape. Matures to a height of approximately 40-50 feet tall.
Heritage River Birch ( Clump Form / Multi stem)
Same as tree form only Grown in a Multi stem
Shade Master Honey Locust
(Gleditsia triacanthos inermis)
This a great all around shade tree. It is fast growing to establish shade quickly and has very fine
leaves that don't need raking in the fall since the can easily dehydrate and decompose quickly into
the lawn. The tree is also very drought tolerant. The small, tightly clustered leaves give a soft, lace
like appearance. Excellent street and lawn tree because it is thorn less and seedless.
Linden Green Spire, Redmond
(Tilia cordata, )
Greenspire is hardy and conical. In general, Tilia cordata is a large deciduous tree. Growth
habit is pyramidal in youth, dense and rounded in maturity. Gray brown bark has ridges and
furrows on mature specimens. Foliage is shiny, bright green in summer, yellow in fall. Fragrant
yellow flowers are borne on hanging 2 to 3 inch cymes in early to mid summer.
The Redmond Linden, 'Tilia americana 'Redmond', is a valuable tree for street planting. Redmond has the
largest leaves of the Lindens and its dense foliage is glossy green with bright yellow autumn color. Voted
2000 Urban Tree of the Year by the Society of Municipal Arborists. The tree is pyramidal when young but
develops into a striking specimen with an upright, oval canopy atop a tall, straight trunk. The lower branches
on the species remain on the tree and gently drape toward the ground before sweeping up in a gentle curve.
In June, the trees produce abundant, two to three-inch wide clusters of very fragrant, light yellow blooms
which are extremely attractive to bees.
-----------------------------------------ORNAMENTAL TREES
Dappled Willow ( on standard)
Salix integra Hakura Nishiki
A real show stopper! Bright pink shoots which open to creamy white and green variegated leaves. Heavy
fertilization will maintain it's color. This shrub can also be trained into a small tree and can usually be found
in shrub and tree form. Catkins bloom on the stems of this plant in early April. Grows 12-18" per year.
Japanese Tree Lilac (Ivory Silk)
Syringa reticulata 'Ivory Silk'
This Japanese tree lilac cultivar is a small tree or large shrub which typically grows 20-25' tall with a rounded
crown. Creamy white, fragrant, single flowers are arranged in dense, terminal clusters (panicles to 12" long).
Blooms later than most other species of lilac (late May to early June in St. Louis). Elliptic to ovate, dark
green leaves (to 5" long). Attractive reddish-brown bark. Prefers rich, moist, slightly acidic to slightly alkaline
soils. Needs good air circulation. To the extent practicable for a small tree, prompt removal of faded flower
panicles before seed set will increase bloom in the following year. Prune immediately after flowering .
Dwarf Korean Lilac (on standard)
(Syringa meyeri ‘Palibin’)
Raises its sweet fragrance to new heights when top grafted onto a four-foot standard. The resulting small
tree is perfect for use in containers, courtyard landscapes and other gardens where space is at a premium.
An outstanding, low-maintenance shrub or low hedge when left to its own devices, this plant is a real
charmer when raised on a standard to nose-level.
Its neat, rounded growth habit is easily maintained in a lollipop shape with little or no pruning required. The
tiny green leaves of Dwarf Korean Lilac are fine-textured and somewhat glossy, giving the plant a good
appearance throughout the growing season. This native of Northern China is rated hardy to USDA Zone
4 and is tolerant of a wide range of growing conditions and soil types including alkaline growing conditions. It
is resistant to mildew and very easy to grow.
Miss Kim Lilac ( on standard) So sorry the 'Scratch and Sniff' technology isn't available through the
InSyringa patula ‘Miss Kim’ ternet!
A hardy and fragrant standard/grafted tree lilac. Very fragrant flower buds open lavender-blue. Blooms
appear later in the season, once other Lilacs have finished. Vigorous grower, usefeul as a small tree or
accent plant. Flower Colour: Lavender-blue, single
Walker Weeping Pea Tree
CARAGANA ARBORESCENS WALKER
Small lacy green leaves on pendulous branches. Yellow flowers in spring.
Delicate looking, but is extremely hardy. Great in small spaces.
Full sun to light shade. Well-drained soil. 150 cm (5') high. Good as a Foundation corner bed, pooland patio
Area. Prune after flowering to maintain shape.
Cleveland Select Pear
Pyrus calleryana, 'Cleveland Select',
The Cleveland Select Pear is a medium sized ornamental species that is commonly planted for its
decorative value. In early spring Cleveland Select Pear trees produce clusters of beautiful white blossoms
that lasts two weeks before the leaves appear. The flowers that are produced have five petals and are
about 2-3 cm in diameter. Cleveland Select Pear trees have leaves that are oval in shape, 5-7 cm long, and
are glossy dark green. In the autumn Cleveland Select Pears turn brilliant colors, anything from yellow and
orange to a more common red, purple. The Cleveland Select Pear distinguishes itself from the Bradford Pear
because the Cleveland Select is able to withstand storm damage during the high winds of severe
thunderstorms or when ice storms occur.
Autumn Blaze Pear
'Pyrus calleryana 'Autumn Blaze'
The Autumn Blaze Pear, 'Pyrus calleryana 'Autumn Blaze', is a cultivar with a distinct beautiful rounded,
spreading habit that distinguishes it from other pears. The most cold hardy of the Calleryana cultivars, it has
white flowers in spring, dark glossy foliage, and brilliant red fall color. Autumn Blaze's spectacular crimson
fall color defoliates by mid-October, allowing Autumn transplanting. It prefers moist, well-drained soils of
average fertility in full sun, but is adaptable to poor soils, compacted soils, dry soils, and heat. Its round
pome fruit is not ornamentally significant and is covered in russet dots that are olive-brown to tan color.
CRAB APPLES
Malus 'Spring Snow'
Snow (white fruitless) Tree & Clump Form’s
`Spring Snow' Crabapple is unusual in that it is typically fruitless. Its use should be limited in areas where
scab, fireblight or rust is a problem. The dense, oval crown grows to about 25 to 30 feet tall and 15 to 20 feet
wide. Early pruning to remove lower branches and purchasing tree-form specimens at the nursery can
usually ensure that pruning requirement can be kept to a minimum.
Coral Burst Crab Apple
Malus ‘Coral Burst’
Coralburst Flowering Crab is clothed in stunning clusters of fragrant rose flowers along the
branches in mid spring, which emerge from distinctive coral pink flower buds before the
leaves. It has dark green foliage throughout the season. The pointy leaves turn yellow in fall.
The fruits are showy tomato-orange pomes carried in abundance from early fall right through
to late winter, which can be messy if allowed to drop on the lawn or walkways. The rough
brown bark is not particularly outstanding.
Profusion Crab Apple
Malus 'Profusion'
This is a semi-weeping, upright, deciduous tree. Leaves are dense, ovate, often lobed, dark
green, up to 3 inches long. Dark red buds develop into purplish-red flowers that fade to
purplish pink in spring. Produces deep red fruit approximately the size of a cherry. Grows to
15 to 25 feet tall and 10 to 20 feet wide. This tree does well in most soil, but will be more
attractive if fed peat and compost. Moderately disease resistant.
Loisa ( Pink weeping Dwarf)
Malus Loisa
This is a weeping, spreading, deciduous tree. Leaves are ovate, often lobed, dark green, up to
3 inches long. Red buds produce pale pink blooms, followed by yellow fruit. This tree does well
in most soil, but will be more attractive if fed peat and compost.
Molten Lava Crab Apple
(Malus 'Molazam')
This is a semi-weeping, spreading, deciduous tree. Leaves are ovate, often lobed, dark green,
up to 3 inches long. Red buds produce pale pink blooms, fading to white as flowers mature.
Followed by red fruit approximately the size of a cherry. This tree does well in most soil, but
will be more attractive if fed peat and compost. 'Molten Lava' flowers deep red in bud opening
to single white with red-orange fruit remaining firm into early December on a wide-spreading
weeper 15 foot by 12 foot tall tree with attractive yellow bark in winter.
