POLICY AND PROCEDURE
House of New Hope
POLICY: HR 630
TITLE: Personal Appearance
EFFECTIVE DATE:
1/02
REVISION DATE:
3/2016
AUTHORIZED BY: Board of Trustees
Summary:
Dress, grooming, and personal cleanliness standards contribute to the morale of all employees and
affect the business image House of New Hope presents to customers and visitors.
Guideline:
During business hours or when representing House of New Hope, you are expected to present a modest,
professional, clean, neat, and tasteful appearance. You should dress and groom yourself according to
the requirements of your position and accepted social standards. This is particularly true if your job
involves dealing with consumers or visitors in-person.
Your supervisor is responsible for establishing a reasonable dress code appropriate to the job you
perform. If your supervisor feels your personal appearance is inappropriate, you may be asked to leave
the workplace until you are properly dressed or groomed. Under such circumstance, you will not be
compensated for the time away from work. Consult your supervisor if you have questions as to what
constitutes appropriate appearance. Where necessary, a reasonable accommodation may be made to a
person with a disability.
For employees that will be working from their office on any given day, “business appropriate” denim
jeans are acceptable attire. For purposes of clarity, “business appropriate” means jeans that are not
ripped and torn, whether by wear and tear or by design, are cleaned and well maintained, and/or are
not too low cut. In addition, “business appropriate” shorts and culottes are also considered acceptable
attire. For purposes of clarity, “business appropriate” means knee length, loose fitting material that is
not ripped or torn, whether by wear and tear or by design, and is cleaned and well maintained.
Please note that tank tops, sweat pants, and tee shirts with advertising/slogans are never appropriate
business attire.
