Early Writing
Early Chinese writing consisted of
pictographs (characters that
represented objects) and ideographs
(characters that join two or more
pictographs to represent an idea).
Because there were so many characters
to memorize, few people knew how to
read and write.
Instructions:
1. On the back of this page, write a
paragraph telling me what you
normally do on the weekend (or
what you plan to do this weekend).
2. Create your own pictograph writing
system, using characters that you
create to represent objects and fill in
the conversion table on the back.
(only create the characters that
you need for your paragraph).
3. Translate your paragraph into your
pictograph language and write it in
the space provided on the back of
this page.
