Brochure More information from http://www.researchandmarkets.com/reports/2139280/ Country Commerce Costa Rica Description: Despite recent movements to increase competition in the telecommunications sector, the government ruled out deregulating internet and telephony tariffs in 2014. The Superintendency of Telecommunications (Superintendencia de Telecomunicaciones), an industry regulator, has commissioned a series of studies on the viability of further opening the market. It expects the first study to be concluded by end-2015, followed by a period of public consultation. A new minimum wage went into force in July 2015 via Decree 39055-MTSS, increasing the pay floor by 0.94% for private-sector workers. For skilled workers, the new monthly minimum wage ranges from C286,467.36 for unspecialised workers to C615,083.69 for workers with post-graduate degrees. For unskilled workers, the new minimum daily wage ranges from C9,598.73 for unspecialised workers to C12,537.91 for specialised workers. In February 2015 Congress passed into law a bill (No. 19,245) aimed at improving the collection of personal taxes. The new law introduces a number of scenarios under which individuals must confirm having met their tax obligations, among other measures. The law was initially proposed in July 2014, motivated by the country's high levels of tax evasion.
