Duties included coordinating research activities, implementing laboratory-based assessments, and webpage development for two federally-funded (CDC, DOD) Bunaciu CV 11 randomized control trials for the prevention and treatment of domestic violence among couples with one partner being an OEF/OIF veteran suffering from PTSD. Behavior Therapy and Research Laboratory, University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee Research Assistant, December, 2002 – August, 2006 Supervisor: Douglas W. Woods, Ph.D. Duties involved assisting on a multi-site, grant-funded project evaluating the psychometric properties of several direct observation methods used to assess tics associated with Tourette’s Syndrome (TS) and comparing direct observation procedures to self-report measures to determine the most reliable and valid method for measuring tics. The project also assessed tic reactivity to observation by videotaping children under several conditions (e.g., alone vs. with an experimenter present). Duties also involved assisting with projects evaluating conditions under which children with TS voluntarily suppress their tics, and investigating the effects and predictors of short-term tic suppression (e.g., the “tic rebound phenomenon”). Neurophysiology and Behavior Laboratory, University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee Research Assistant, May, 2004 – May, 2006 Supervisor: James R. Moyer, Jr., Ph.D. Assisted on grant-funded projects (QRG Bioscience, LLG) investigating: 1) the effects of perirhinal cortex lesions on young and aged rats’ cognitive decline; and 2) the effects of aequorin (a calcium-binding protein) on aged rats’ neural and behavioral deficits relevant to patients suffering from Alzheimer’s disease. Following hippocampal surgery and drug infusion, fear conditioning paradigms and immunohistochemical and ischemic experiments were carried out to assess cognitive decline on a molecular, cellular and behavioral level. Duties included implementing fear conditioning paradigms, performing brain surgeries (hippocampal cannulations), drug infusions, brain perfusions, as well as staining, observing and recording activity within living brain slices.
