Greening Princeton: Meeting Minutes September 20, 2010
*We’ve had many requests to change the 8 pm Monday meeting time/day
due to a conflict of schedule. If you would like to attend meetings, please
let us know when you available here.*
Get involved with the Upcoming projects!
Game Day Recycling Challenge
Greening Princeton will be helping the athletic department with the Game Day Recycling
Challenge, which is a friendly competition for colleges and universities to promote waste
reduction at their football games.
During the month of October, colleges and universities will implement waste reduction
programs during a home football game. Schools will track and report recycling and waste data
that will then be used to rank the schools. EPA will announce the winning schools in November.
Princeton has 3 home football games in October (9th, 16th, and 23rd), so there will be a big need
for volunteers. Email azhao@ if you’re interested in helping out.
10/10/10 Day
10/10/10 day is a festival on campus that will be similar to the 350 Day of Climate Action. We
will have representatives from campus environmental groups sharing ideas, sustainable snacks,
and a cappella groups to provide musical entertainment. It will be a great way to raise awareness
about climate change and encourage everyone to get involved! Email czheng@ if you would like
to help with planning
Dinner Discussion Series
Greening Princeton’s dinner discussion series features distinguished speakers on
environmental issues and policy-making. We invite a range of speakers who each approach the
subject matter through a unique lens, and who collectively reflect the scope of environmental
policy. Past speakers include Professor Michael Oppenheimer, a leading climate change
scientist, and Mr. Valentino, VP of CSR at Bayer China.
If you are interested in helping out with speakers and coordination, please email czheng@.

Future/Potential Projects
We want to hear your ideas! Below are some of the ideas from Monday night’s meeting.
Email greening@ with comments or questions.
Reducing the amount of bottled drinks sold: If people could fill their water bottles with
soda, Gatorade, Snapple, etc. would students be less inclined to buy bottled drinks?
Sustainability outside the Orange Bubble: Trips to the nearby organic farms to see what’s
happening in New Jersey and where our food comes from.
Increasing Recycling awareness: Change the color/design of the recycling bins to look
more like recycling bins and less like trash cans; Green tips or facts about sustainability at
Princeton on dining hall tables.
Upcoming green events and new developments
Cell Phone Recycling
Princeton is finally able to recycle used cell phones! Drop old phones and chargers off in the
receptacle near the FedEx box (Café Viv side) on the 100 level of Frist, and tell your friends!
The Greening Princeton Farmer’s Market is back! The Farmers' Market will be held at Hind
Plaza, next to the Princeton Public Library on Thursdays, from 11AM-4PM.

Ever wonder what happens when the dining halls prepare too much food?
Student volunteers with Princeton FoodTASK collect trays upon trays of leftovers from the
dining halls and deliver them to the Trenton Area Soup Kitchen (TASK) each Tuesday and
Friday morning from 8–10 a.m. With the help of all our members, FoodTASK contributes
thousands of nutritious meals each semester to the Trenton community. Please
contact svctask@ if you are interested in joining (or if you have any further questions)! If you
want to get involved, but Tues/Fri do not work for you, please let us know as well.
