or
GERMAN CULTURAL STUDIES: REFLECTIONS ON GERMAN HISTORY,
LITERATURE AND ART.
In addition to the seminar chosen, all students will also attend
GERMAN LANGUAGE CLASSES.
ENVIRONMENTAL
ENGINEERING
45 contact hours , 4 ECTS credits
This seminar is designed for students in engineering or urban and landscape
planning and offers an in-depth introduction to cutting-edge renewable
energy sources. Participants will have the opportunity to learn more about
German and European perspectives on energy while covering topics such as
wind turbines, photovoltaics, geothermal technologies, and biomass.
The University of Kassel is a leader in the field of environmental
engineering in Germany and around the world. This seminar is taught by
renowned faculty members and includes field trips to further demonstrate
the real-life environmental and economic impact of these new and
promising technologies.
GERMAN LANGUAGE
LEARNING
GERMAN CULTURAL
STUDIES
30 contact hours , 2 ECTS credits
45 contact hours , 4 ECTS credits
All participants attend a German language course offered at different levels
based on the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages
[Beginner, Intermediate, Advanced]*. Studying in small groups, IWU students
enjoy a friendly and relaxed atmosphere that is conducive to interactive
language learning. Our highly qualified language instructors employ
innovative teaching methods to make learning fun and effective.
This seminar is designed for students in the humanities and social sciences
who are interested in German arts and literature of the 19th and 20th
centuries. The material covered explores German history and its influence
on today‘s culture while engaging participants in topics such as movements
in German literature, philosophy, and art. Students will take a closer look
at the crucial players of this time period, including Goethe, Nietzsche, and
the Bauhaus movement.
And after lessons, you can practise your German with your host family and
dive into the German culture!
*CEFR Levels A1-C2
Throughout the course, participants will visit Kassel‘s various museums
and Weimar, an intellectual center of Europe in the late 18th and early
19th centuries. The enduring spirit of this era and its role for 20th
century politics in Germany makes the town appealing to appreciators of
architecture, literature and art or political science and history.
