Grades 11-12, Health Science Anatomy and Physiology, Quarter 3, Revised 2014-15 Big Ideas/Key Concepts: Students will investigate the cardiac system in regards to structure and function, as well as, exploring disease and disorder that may disrupt the function of the system. Standards Student Friendly “I Can” Statements 5.1 Describe the molecular and cellular components of the blood and their role in the maintenance of the normal homeostasis of the human body. I can define basic terminology. 5.2 Demonstrate an understanding of the anatomy and physiology of the heart and the flow of blood through the heart. I can label the anatomy of the heart and explain how blood travels through the heart. 5.3 Describe the structure of blood vessels and label the major arteries and veins. I can label the major blood vessels in the body. I can explain the purpose and function of the cardiac system.
