2016.17 Seventh Grade Intermediate Instrumental Music, Quarter 2 On-Going Standards Big Ideas/Key Concepts: Students will demonstrate regular maintenance of their instruments. They will consistently play with correct basic techniques and begin to develop practice strategies to improve performance. They will demonstrate an understanding of the historical connections to the music being performed. Standards Proper Instrument Care and Maintenance 7.IM.2.1.2 Demonstrate proper daily maintenance routine. (i.e., corks, slides, valves, reeds, bows, strings). Technique 7.IM.2.3.2 Demonstrate a fundamental knowledge of breathing, bowing, embouchure, fingering, articulation, and/or percussion sticking. Student Friendly “I Can” Statements I can clean and maintain the playing condition of my instrument. I can demonstrate proficient technique in Grade II music: Correct posture Proper instrument and hand position Correct breathing, full length bowing, embouchure, fingering, articulation and/or percussion sticking/mallet grip and appropriate auxiliary percussion 7.WCE.IM.1 Demonstrate practice strategies as guided by the teacher. I can independently implement teacher provided practice strategies to improve my performance. 7.IM.9.1.2 List historical periods as related to selected music examples. Page 1 of 3 Intermediate Instrumental Music, Quarter 2 Big Ideas/Key Concepts: Students will expand their ranges and begin playing more difficult music. Students should be exposed to a variety of cultural and historical time periods. 1.0 Singing 7.IM.1.1.2 Sing a melody in unison with pitch-accuracy. I can demonstrate basic vocal production while singing melodies based on teacher-selected intervals of more than a whole step. 7.IM.1.2.1 Sing a two-part round. I can sing my part of a two part round with reasonable accuracy. 2.0 Playing Instruments Characteristic Tone Quality 7.IM.2.2.1 Produce a fundamental tone throughout the range of the instrument. Technique 7.WCE.IM.4 Demonstrate contrasting articulations. Pitch and Rhythms 7.IM.2.4.2 Identify, notate and perform basic rhythms and pitches. I can produce a fundamental tone with varying dynamics and length of pitch throughout the practice range of my instrument. I can demonstrate proper technique to produce contrasting articulations. I can demonstrate rhythmic accuracy on dotted quarter/eighth notes and sixteenth notes. Musicality 7.IM.2.5.1 Identify and demonstrate an understanding of selected dynamic and tempo markings. I can play with accurate tempo and dynamic markings as indicated by the music and conductor cues. Sight-Reading 7.IM.2.6.1 Demonstrate an understanding of basic elements associated with successful sight-reading. I can implement a consistent method for sight-reading to 8-16 measure examples at a beginning level. Scales and Rudiments 7.IM.2.7.2 Perform a major scale in at least four keys/four rudiments. Winds/Mallets I can play concert C and A-flat scales and arpeggios one octave. Strings I can play F and B-b scales and arpeggios one-octave and C, D, G and A scales 2-octaves. Page 2 of 3 Intermediate Instrumental Music, Quarter 2 Percussion I can play a ruff and drag rudiment on my snare drum and a basic 2 drum pattern on timpani. 4.0 Composing 7.IM.4.1.2 Create a four-measure melody within specified guidelines. I can create, write and perform an original melody within teacherprovided guidelines at an age-appropriate level. 5.0 Reading and Notating 7.IM.5.1.2 Recognize and apply standard notation symbols for dynamics, tempo, articulation, and expression. I can accurately perform Grade I music that incorporates expressive symbols, a variety of articulations, tempo and meter changes. 6.0 Listening and Analyzing 7.IM.6.1.1 Describe a simple musical example using basic music vocabulary/terminology. I can describe musical examples using intermediate level music terminology such as D.S. al Fine, Rallentando and enharmonic. 7.0 Evaluating 7.IM.7.2.1 Present an oral or written evaluation of a performance of another person using appropriate vocabulary/terminology.
