The last major wireless project was 2004 and had only limited access. • Network planning, management and maintenance is now a continuous and growing demand on IT services. IT Challenges – Expanding Services • All phones are now Voice Over IP (VOIP) digital, networked phones. • Video surveillance has expanded from four cameras at DHS to over two dozen cameras spreads across three separate school sites. • These new services require unique and specialized support services. IT Challenges – Expanding Classroom Support • Online resources and tools for instruction are now the norm. • Common Core Standards have internet research skills and technology use embedded throughout, beginning in Kindergarten. • Google Apps use is expanding rapidly at all grade levels. This requires reliable & robust networks. • The management of Google staff/student accounts, app deployment and security. IT Challenges – Expanding Classroom Support • New tools like 3D printers and laser etchers are entering our Engineering Pathway classrooms requiring skilled setup and support. • Online blended classes and digital textbook use is expanding at both High Schools. This requires reliable & robust networks. • Classroom instruction is beginning to include the use of Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) for students. Adding to the growing security demands on our networks. IT Challenges – Maintenance of effort • Plan, manage and monitor an expanding network. • Ensure networks are secure and safe for student and staff use. • Perform maintenance on the growing inventory of network equipment. • Work orders to repair and maintain staff and student equipment (average of 200 work orders a month). • Install new equipment. • Manage VOIP Phones – one in every classroom. • Support new technologies as they develop.
