JOB SUMMARY: Responsibility for the College’s local and wide area networks (both wired and wireless), the
voice-over-IP (VoIP) telephone system and all network-specific and VoIP components: hubs, routers,
switches, bridges Cisco CallManagers, and Unity Voice Mail. Responsible for network topology and
performance, network security, and planning for future directions and network needs.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
1. Consult with stakeholders on network connectivity and bandwidth needs for the College,
including needs for new sites. Ensure that these needs are addressed in all network
designs and redesigns. Analyze network topology on an ongoing basis and initiate
changes to ensure optimal performance and efficiency.

2. Perform ongoing monitoring of network performance and take specific corrective action
as required to remove bottlenecks and other impediments. Perform ongoing health
monitoring and maintenance or all network devices: firewalls, internet security servers,
VPN servers, hubs, routers, switches, bridges.

3. Ensure the security of the following against both internal and external intrusion: local
area networks (LANs), virtual local area networks (VLANs), the wide-area network
(WAN), and the VPN. Administer the College’s virtual private network. Lead core
security projects.

4. Configuration and operation of the College’s wireless network and the interfaces
between wireless and wired components.

5. Configuration and operation of the College’s VoIP telephone system and its components

6. Document and enforce network incident response procedures. Document and enforce
network usage standards, including standards for password maintenance.

7. Define, document, and manage all enterprise-level directory services: LDAP and AD.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY:

ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS:
EDUCATION: Bachelor's Degree - or - Professional Level certification - or - Demonstrated KSA
EXPERIENCE: 5 Years related experience
REQUIRED CERTIFICATIONS:
Cisco network administrator certification (CCNP)
Network security certification such as CCSP or SCNP
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
1. Detailed understanding of Cisco networks.
2. Detailed understanding of network topology, domain structure and performance optimization
principles.
3. Detailed understanding of wireless technologies, such as 802, 11/g/b/a/, WEP, WPA.
4. Detailed understanding of security and network-related protocols relative to TCP/IP, IPSEC, and
802.1x.
5. Detailed understanding of network exploitation methods and the ability to identify and address
intrusion incidents on host operating systems.
6. Knowledge of security and network troubleshooting tools, such as TCPDUMP, DSS, Sniffer,
Ethereal, hping.
7. Knowledge of vulnerability tools, such as Nessus, NMap, NStealth, ISS.
8. Knowledge of IDS systems and experience with signature and protocol analysis threat detection
methods.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Duties requires occasional physical exertion, work with moderate to heavy (up to 50 lbs.)
materials unassisted. Incumbent must be able to climb a ladder for work in various ceiling
environments. Duties performed causes light fatigue of eyes, fingers, or other faculties due to
long periods of standing, sitting, and/or repetitive motion.
