• Wealthy rich people lived in the villas.

They lived in luxurious villas that were filled
with beautiful creative designs.
• Rich Romans made their money from their land, farms
and from trading.
• These Romans usually lived on large estates or in
villas.
• The Romans with good jobs were craft workers,
traders and officials.
• Roman villas were all about status.
• The richest decorated their best rooms with mosaics (small
pieces of small colored stone or glass) and painted wall –plaster,
exotic stonework, furniture and statuary.

•The super-rich installed grandiose (large) bath-suites or
dining rooms.
•The villa complex usually consisted of three
parts.
The third part of the villa was mainly
made for storage.
• Storage rooms here would have been used for oil, wine, grain,
grapes and any other produce of the villa.
• Other rooms in the villa might include an office, a temple for
worship, several bedrooms, a dining room and a kitchen.
• Large villas dominated the rural economy of the Po Valley,
Campania, Sicily and were also found in Gual.
• Late Roman owners of villa had luxuries like hypocaust-heated
rooms.
• There were two kinds of villas: the villa Urbana, which was a
country seat that could easily reached by Rome.
• The rich people that lived in the city would have the walls
painted with designs.
• The other villa is called Villa Rustica, and it’s a farmhouse
occupied permanently for the servants.
This is called a colonnade from Ancient Rome.
This was left and rebuild by some parts and is one of the most
visited places in Rome.
Colonnade were usually built by a villa leading to the gardens.
