By:Julia,Liam, and Zaineel The circulatory system involves heart, vessels, blood and the pulmonary and systematic circuits. It’s also known cardiovascular system-cardio meaning heart and vascular relating to blood vessels. The functions of the circulatory system are to transport oxygen and nutrients to parts of the body and remove waste or toxic products from the body. The balance of nutrients keeps the body functioning properly. It also controls body temperature and to protect from disease through white blood cells. There are 2 types of circuits in the circulatory system. The first is the pulmonary circuit which carries blood from the heart to the lungs and back again. The other circuit is the systematic circuit which carries blood from the heart to the rest of the body and back again. The heart has 4 chambers. The right side deals with blood with less oxygen. The left side deals with oxygenated blood (blood with more oxygen). Arteries carry blood away from the heart. Capillaries are tiny vessels that let blood get to every small cell. Veins bring dark red deoxynated blood back to the heart. Aorta-main blood vessel leaving the heart Arterioles-blood vessels that are sub-divisions of arteries Endothelium-internal space of the blood vessels; in arteries this changes according to the amount of blood to be transported Septum-wall of muscle dividing the left and right sides of the heart Valves-opening allowing blood flow in one direction only found in the heart and veins Vena Cava-blood vessels transporting deoxynated blood back to the heart Red blood cells carry oxygen but they also transport nutrients and waste products such as carbon dioxide It is made of hemoglobin which is oxygen chemically attaching itself to the blood cell. 2 million red blood cells are made and killed every second. White blood cells help protect the body from diseases, repair damaged tissue, and destroy bacteria. There are five types of white blood cells. Platelets are in charge of clotting blood. Plasma helps blood to flow easier Blood is blue before it hits oxygen. When it hits oxygen it turns red.
