Temple Sheckles are available in the hallway.

(House Of Our Father)
I want to show you some
Scriptures concerning traditions…
“But it says in Mark 7:8 You leave
the commandment of God and
hold to the tradition of men.”
The key is in the first part of this
verse… YOU LEAVE THE
COMMANDMENT OF GOD and
hold to the tradition of men.
I Cor 11:2
2 Now I praise you because you
have remembered everything I
told you and observe the
traditions just the way I passed
them on to you.
II Thes 2
15 Therefore, brothers, stand
firm; and hold to the traditions
you were taught by us, whether
we spoke them or wrote them in
a letter.
II Thes 3
6 Now we command you,
brethren, in the name of our
Lord Jesus Christ, that ye
withdraw yourselves from every
brother that walketh disorderly,
and not after the tradition which
he received of us.
• We’d like to welcome any visitors.
• We have visitor cards that you can fill
out then drop into the Tzedika
(offering) box when we pass it around.
• Begin online broadcast!
• Welcome to our online Congregation.
We’re glad to have you with us this
Shabbat.
• T-shirts!
• Yes, we have a money changing table.
Yeshua was not against that, He was
against the fact that they were robbing
the people, they weren’t charging fair
prices.
• The people HAD to have a way to
change money and buy the animals
needed for sacrifice.
• They were coming from all over the
world, it was a necessity.
• Head Coverings. They were no
good, they were made out of
polyester.
• We have some friends that will be picking
up some gold Messianic Jewelry for us in
India. It’s 22K gold so it retains it’s value. If
you haven’t already, invest in gold and silver!
This gold jewelry we’re offering is a great
investment for anyone!
• The big sign is ready!
•It’s down on the main st. and it
says… “What About Gods Laws”
• Beginning Hebrew today after service.
• In 2 weeks, for the Shabbat Message,
I’ll be teaching “Prayer For The
Palestinian Problem”. Invite your
unsaved friends.
• The teaching is a run down of what is really
happening between the Israelis and the Palestinians.
It makes it easy to understand what the situation
over there is actually about and what the Israelis are
up against. It’s very political in nature (non religious)
and leaves no room for misunderstanding the true
motives of the players in the region. Believer or not
this is a teaching no one should miss.
• Order your Tefilin from Bob at the
back after service.
•Deut 11:18
• Therefore, you are to store up these
words of mine in your heart and in all
your being; tie them on your hand as a
sign; put them at the front of a
headband around your forehead.
We do it!
What a concept!
• That’s what Jesus wore.
• Wanna be like Jesus? Great, He
wore Tefilin!
• Sabbath School is now
available!!!
•Nicole Gates will be heading our
Sabbath School program.
• Would you like to say hello
Nicole?
• Teresa and I have spent some
time with Nicole, she’s great with
kids and very dynamic.
• We’re very happy to have her
working with us and helping us
further the Messianic Message
with our youth.
• Messianic Judaism classes for
beginners.
•Bob will be leading a class once a
week for those who would like to
learn more about Messianic
Judaism.
•I mentioned this before about the
HaYesod (The Foundation)
program.
•We’re offering it free for those
who are interested. If you buy it
online it’s 60.00 per family
•This is a program not only good
for beginners, but also for those
who would like to review some of
the basics of Messianic Judaism.
•Even if you’ve been in Messianic
Judaism for a while, you’ll still
learn quite a bit from these
teachings.
•I recommend it for everyone here.
•It’s not as intensive as what you
hear on Shabbat and Tuesday
nights but that could be a good
thing too.
• It’s non threatening and good to
bring a Church friend to as well.
•It’s also really good for people
who are coming out of the Church,
it uses Christian terms that they
can understand and is familiar to
them. It has a gentle way of
teaching Messianic Judaism.
•We’re going to look at part one of
an overview of the program on
their website. It’s about 8 minutes
long.
•Show video.
•We need to know how many
people are wanting to take this
course and what day/evening is
best for everyone.
• The Calendars came in!
All dates on the Jewish/Lunar and
Gregorian/Solar calendar systems
All major Biblical/Jewish and Israeli holidays

• Black hole caught tearing
apart a star!
A priest dies and is waiting in line at the Pearly Gates.
Ahead of him is a guy who's dressed in sunglasses, a
loud shirt, leather jacket, and jeans.
Saint Peter addresses this cool guy, 'Who are you, so
that I may know whether or not to admit you to the
Kingdom of Heaven ? '
The guy replies, 'I'm Jack, retired airline pilot from
Houston .'
Saint Peter consults his list. He smiles and says to the
pilot, 'Take this silken robe and golden staff and enter
the Kingdom.' The pilot goes into Heaven with his robe
and staff.
Next, it's the priest's turn. He stands erect and booms
out, 'I am Father Bob, pastor of Saint Mary's for the
last 43 years.'
Saint Peter consults his list. He says
to the priest, 'Take this cotton robe
and wooden staff and enter the
Kingdom.
'Just a minute,' says the good father.
'That man was a pilot and he gets a
silken robe and golden staff and I get
only cotton and wood. How can this be?
'Up here - we go by results,' says Saint
Peter. 'When you preached - people
slept.
When he flew, people prayed.'
“On the morning of the third
day there was thunder and lightning, with a
thick cloud over the mountain, and there was
the sounding of a very loud SHOFAR blast.
Everyone in the camp trembled.”

Meet new people! Let them see that
Messianics truly understand community
and brotherly/sisterly love. Say hello to
old friends… show that you care!
We say the L-rd’s Prayer
(Our Prayer) because Yeshua told
us this is how we should pray.
We pray so G-d will hear our petitions
and grant whichever prayers are
in accord with His will. We also pray
In order to bless Him. Bob will be leading
us today.
•
You can email or hand write
your prayers for Salvation of
loved ones or healing to Bob
and they will then be sent to
the wailing wall in Jerusalem
to be placed in the wall.
•
We have a service that is
doing this for us and then in
Oct. our own Missionaries
will be placing them there in
person.
•
If you have a need for healing
or for an un-Saved loved one
please raise your hand now
and if you like, write it down
to be sent to the wailing wall
(Kotel) and give it to Bob
afterwards.

Blessing Before The Reading
Of The Torah
Sept 10, 2011 Ki teitze
("When you go"):
Deuteronomy 21:10-25:19
Isaiah 54:1-10
Acts 13-15
Sept 3, 2011
Shoftim ("Judges")
Deuteronomy 16:18-21:9
Isaiah 51:12-52:12
Acts 10-12
We’ll read…
Deuteronomy 16:21 – 17:13
Isaiah 52:1-12
Acts 10:1-22
Deuteronomy 16:21 – 17:13
21 "You are not to plant any sort of tree
as a sacred pole beside the altar of
ADONAI your God that you will make for
yourselves. 1 "You are not to sacrifice to
ADONAI your God a cow or sheep that
has a defect or anything wrong with it;
that would be an abomination to
ADONAI your God.
Deuteronomy 16:21 – 17:13
2 "If there is found among you, within
any of your gates [in any city] that
ADONAI your God gives you, a man or
woman who does what ADONAI your
God sees as wicked, transgressing his
covenant 3 by going and serving other
gods and worshipping them, the sun,
the moon, or anything in the sky something I have forbidden -
Deuteronomy 16:21 – 17:13
4 and it is told to you, or you hear about
it; then you are to investigate the
matter diligently. If it is true, if it is
confirmed that such detestable things
are being done in Isra'el; 5 then you are
to bring the man or woman who has
done this wicked thing to your city
gates, and stone that man or woman to
death.
Deuteronomy 16:21 – 17:13
6 The death sentence is to be carried
out only if there was testimony from
two or three witnesses; he may not be
sentenced to death on the testimony of
only one witness. 7 The witnesses are to
be the first to stone him to death;
afterwards, all the people are to stone
him. Thus you will put an end to this
wickedness among you.
Deuteronomy 16:21 – 17:13
8 "If a case comes before you at
your city gate which is too difficult
for you to judge, concerning
bloodshed, civil suit, personal
injury or any other controversial
issue; you are to get up, go to the
place which ADONAI your God will
choose,
Deuteronomy 16:21 – 17:13
9 and appear before the cohanim, who
are L'vi'im, and the judge in office at the
time. Seek their opinion, and they will
render a verdict for you. 10 You will
then act according to what they have
told you there in that place which
ADONAI will choose; you are to take
care to act according to all their
instructions.
Deuteronomy 16:21 – 17:13
11 In accordance with the Torah they teach
you, you are to carry out the judgment they
render, not turning aside to the right or the left
from the verdict they declare to you. 12
Anyone presumptuous enough not to pay
attention to the cohen appointed there to
serve ADONAI your God or to the judge - that
person must die. Thus you will exterminate
such wickedness from Isra'el -
Deuteronomy 16:21 – 17:13
13 all the people will hear about it and
be afraid to continue acting
presumptuously. End (Baruch HaShem)
Isaiah 52:1-12
1 Awake! Awake, Tziyon! Clothe yourself
with your strength! Dress in your
splendid garments, Yerushalayim, the
holy city! For the uncircumcised and the
unclean will enter you no more. 2 Shake
off the dust! Arise! Be enthroned,
Yerushalayim! Loosen the chains on
your neck, captive daughter of Tziyon!
Isaiah 52:1-12
3 For thus says ADONAI: "You were
sold for nothing, and you will be
redeemed without money." 4 For
thus says Adonai ELOHIM: "Long
ago my people went down to Egypt
to live there as aliens, and Ashur
oppressed them for no reason.
Isaiah 52:1-12
5 So now, what should I do here," asks
ADONAI, "since my people were carried
off for nothing? Their oppressors are
howling," says ADONAI, "and my name
is always being insulted, daily. 6
Therefore my people will know my
name; therefore on that day they will
know that I, the one speaking - here I
am!"
Isaiah 52:1-12
7 How beautiful on the mountains
are the feet of him who brings
good news, proclaiming shalom,
bringing good news of good things,
announcing salvation and saying to
Tziyon, "Your God is King!"
Isaiah 52:1-12
8 Listen! Your watchmen are raising
their voices, shouting for joy together.
For they will see, before their own eyes,
ADONAI returning to Tziyon. 9 Break out
into joy! Sing together, you ruins of
Yerushalayim! For ADONAI has
comforted his people, he has redeemed
Yerushalayim!
Isaiah 52:1-12
10 ADONAI has bared his holy arm in
the sight of every nation, and all the
ends of the earth will see the salvation
of our God. 11 Leave! Leave! Get out of
there! Don't touch anything unclean!
Get out from inside it, and be clean, you
who carry ADONAI's temple equipment.
Isaiah 52:1-12
12 You need not leave in haste,
you do not have to flee; for
ADONAI will go ahead of you,
and the God of Isra'el will also
be behind you. END (Baruch
HaShem)
Acts 10:1-22
1 There was a man in Caesarea
named Cornelius, a Roman army
officer in what was called the
Italian Regiment. 2 He was a
devout man, a "God-fearer," as
was his whole household; he gave
generously to help the Jewish poor
and prayed regularly to God.
Acts 10:1-22
3 One afternoon around three o'clock
he saw clearly in a vision an angel of
God coming in and saying to him,
"Cornelius!" 4 Cornelius stared at the
angel, terrified. "What is it, sir?" he
asked. "Your prayers," replied the angel,
"and your acts of charity have gone up
into God's presence, so that he has you
on his mind.
Acts 10:1-22
5 Now send some men to Yafo to bring back a
man named Shim'on, also called Kefa. 6 He's
staying with Shim'on the leather-tanner, who
has a house by the sea." 7 As the angel that
had spoken to him went away, Cornelius called
two of his household slaves and one of his
military aides, who was a godly man; 8 he
explained everything to them and sent them to
Yafo.
Acts 10:1-22
9 The next day about noon, while they were
still on their way and approaching the city, Kefa
went up onto the roof of the house to pray. 10
He began to feel hungry and wanted
something to eat; but while they were
preparing the meal, he fell into a trance 11 in
which he saw heaven opened, and something
that looked like a large sheet being lowered to
the ground by its four corners.
Acts 10:1-22
12 In it were all kinds of four-footed animals,
crawling creatures and wild birds. 13 Then a
voice came to him, "Get up, Kefa, slaughter
and eat!" 14 But Kefa said, "No, sir! Absolutely
not! I have never eaten food that was unclean
or treif." 15 The voice spoke to him a second
time: "Stop treating as unclean what God has
made clean."
Acts 10:1-22
16 This happened three times, and then
the sheet was immediately taken back
up into heaven. 17 Kefa was still
puzzling over the meaning of the vision
he had seen, when the men Cornelius
had sent, having inquired for Shim'on's
house, stood at the gate 18 and called
out to ask if the Shim'on known as Kefa
was staying there.
Acts 10:1-22
19 While Kefa's mind was still on the
vision, the Spirit said, "Three men are
looking for you. 20 Get up, go
downstairs, and have no misgivings
about going with them, because I myself
have sent them." 21 So Kefa went down
and said to the men, "You were looking
for me? Here I am. What brings you
here?"
Acts 10:1-22
22 They answered, "Cornelius. He's a
Roman army officer, an upright man and
a God-fearer, a man highly regarded by
the whole Jewish nation; and he was
told by a holy angel to have you come to
his house and listen to what you have to
say." End (Baruch HaShem)

Today’s Message:
The “G-d Fearers”
θεοφοβείς
•
•
Today we’re going to find out
who the G-d Fearers were.
We’re going to look at
Scriptural references
concerning them, ancient
Jewish writings and also
ancient inscriptions in Asia
Minor.
•
Let’s look first at the Brit
Hadasha (New Testament)… Acts
13:15 After the reading from the
Torah and from the Prophets, the
synagogue leaders sent them a
message, "Brothers, if any of you
has a word of exhortation for the
people, speak!"
•
16 So Sha'ul stood, motioned with his
hand, and said: "Men of Isra'el and
God-fearers, listen! 17 The God of this
people Isra'el chose our fathers. He
made the people great during the
time when they were living as aliens
in Egypt and with a stretched-out arm
he led them out of that land.
•
•
Many assume today that the
term “G-d fearers” was
simply anyone who feared
G-d.
That’s a reasonable
assumption… but a false one.
•
•
•
The G-d Fearers were a
particular group of people.
They weren’t Jews and they
weren’t proselytes either.
So what were they?
•
The G-d fearers were
Gentiles who had leanings
towards becoming Jews but
hadn’t quite yet become
converts.
•
•
“Well, if they wanted to
become Jews, why didn't
they just do it???”
Their main objection was a
very understandable
obstacle…
•
•
•
•
Circumcision!
That’s what was stopping
them.
They believed in the G-d of
Israel.
They believed in keeping His
Holy Laws but…
•
•
•
They were scared of the pain.
It’s not an easy decision to
make if you’re an adult.
Circumcision scared even the
toughest of the Roman
soldiers…
•
•
Cornelius was a G-d Fearer.
Acts 10:1 There was a man in
Caesarea named Cornelius, a
Roman army officer in what
was called the Italian
Regiment.
•
2 He was a devout man, a
"God-fearer," as was his
whole household; he gave
generously to help the Jewish
poor and prayed regularly to
God.
•
First we want to notice
Cornelius was from the
Italian Regiment…Cohores II
Miliaria Italica Civium
Romanorum
•
•
•
Coheres means cohort.
A cohort had ten Centuries
(Centurions).
A cohort was the equivalent of a
modern military battalion.
•
•
Cornelius was one of these
ten Centuries (Centurions).
He’d be the equivalent of a
Company Commander or
Captain.
•
•
•
This battalion (The Italian
Regiment) was an auxiliary unit,
not part of the regular Roman
legion.
What does that mean?
Well, that means they were
brought on for special duties.
•
•
They were enrolled only in
periods of great need.
Not only was Cornelius part
of this special unit he was a
Centurion of this special unit.
•
•
•
We’re taught in Bible School that
Centurions were simply leaders
of 100 (century) men.
That’s not the whole story
though.
Centurions were very cultivated
and highly trained.
•
The Greek historian Polybius wrote
this about the “Centurion”… “They
are the backbone of the Roman Army.
They wish Centurions not so much to
be venturesome and daredevil as
natural leaders, of a steady and
sedate spirit.
•
They do not desire them so much to
be men who will initiate attacks and
open the battle, but men who will
hold their ground when worsted and
hard pressed and be ready to die at
their posts" (Histories 6.24.9).
•
•
•
Basically, they were the Green
Berets of their time.
They weren’t a bunch of hot
heads and they were ready to
die for their country.
So Cornelius was a tough
individual.
•
Cornelius was also a devout
man. Not only was he devout
but his whole family was
following his lead in the
faith...
•
Acts says along with “all his
household” which would
have included household
servants and military
orderlies and their families.
•
•
•
That’s a sizeable amount.
Probably around 20 or so
people.
So he was tough and a leader
who loved G-d very much
but…
•
•
He didn’t want to undergo
circumcision.
That’s where he drew the
line.
•
•
If you’re going to draw a line,
that is the best place to draw
it.
“You’re going to do what to
my what??? I’m going to
need some time to think on
that one”
•
•
•
And that’s where he was
at spiritually when Peter
came to see him.
Did he make the jump
later and become a Jew?
Of course he did!
•
•
•
“Well, where does it say
that???”
It doesn’t.
“Well then how can you
say such a thing???”
•
•
Because in Judaism we assume
that a devout person is always
growing closer to the L-rd.
This is in contrast to those who
assume that one can stay
stagnant.
•
I wont say who that is but here’s
a clue… it’s those who think
abstaining from food polluted by
idols, sexual immorality, meat of
strangled animals, and from
blood is the MAXIMUM
requirement to being Saved.
“Acts 15, that’s all we gotta do!”
•
So Cornelius was a G-d Fearer
who of course eventually
became a Jew, because that’s
where faith in Yeshua leads.
•
Remember…Yeshua is our
perfect example and He
showed us how to live the
Jewish lifestyle.
•
•
•
It’s pretty simple folks even
in a Christian understanding.
Jesus was a Jew from when
he woke up till He went to
bed.
Everything He did was
Jewish.
•
•
•
We also know He was our
perfect example right?
We all agree with that… so
put it together!
If He was our perfect
example, and He lived like a
Jew, how should we live?
•
It’s so simple even a babe can
understand!
•
•
If we were supposed to live
like Gentiles, shouldn’t He
have shown us how to live
the perfect Gentile life if he
was our example?
Back to the G-d Fearers.
•
•
They were also called “Those
who Feared G-d” and also
“Those who honored G-d” but
these are all the same group.
And these G-d Fearers were
EVERYWHERE in the first century.
•
They were all over the
Diaspora (any land outside of
Israel) and we have proof
that the G-d Fearers were all
over.
•
•
in 1987 a square marble column was
found in Asia Minor (today known as
Turkey)
This column is about 9 ft tall and
dates close to the first century
•
•
It was part of a synagogue at the
center of a thriving Diaspora
Jewish community in
Aphrodisias.
Aphrodisias was named after the
Greek goddess, Aphrodite.
•
•
The inscription on this column
wraps around two sides of the
column and provides a list of
about 135 names.
The term “God-fearer” appears
on both sides.
•
Prior to the term “G-d Fearer” on
this column, it says “Jew” and
“Proselyte” showing that there
were 3 distinct groups of people
in the Synagogue.
•
All three groups are
designated as “lovers of
learning” and “those who
wholly praise God”.
•
This is
the
column
that was
found
and it is
now in a
museum
in
Turkey.
•
Here’s one of the actual
inscriptions up close…
ΚΑΙ ΟCΟΙ ΘΕΟCΕΒC
“and to these god-fearers”
•
•
This isn’t the only proof we have
that there were G-d Fearers all
over the Diaspora.
Welcome Josephus…
•
“The Jews were constantly
attracting to their religious
ceremonies (in the Diaspora)
multitudes of Greek, and these
they had in some measure
incorporated with themselves."
•
He also states "But no one need
wonder that there was so much
wealth in our temple, for all the Jews
throughout the habitable world, and
Fearers of God (G-d Fearers), even
those from Asia and Europe, had
been contributing to it for a very long
time."
•
•
Now, don’t confuse these G-d
Fearers with the few G-d Fearers
who were interested in the Sect
of the Nazerenes.
There’s two different groups
we’re talking about.
•
There was a whole bunch of G-d
Fearers (Gentiles) who were
interested in Judaism in general
and a few, very few of those who
were interested in the “Sect of
the Nazarene” Judaism in
particular.
•
•
•
See, a lot of todays scholars make
that mistake here.
They think all these G-d Fearers who
were interested in Judaism in general
“ALL became Christians and that’s
how Christianity spread so quickly
throughout the Diaspora”.
That’s what they’ll tell you…
•
•
•
But I will tell you…Paul’s
Shammamite message didn’t
spread very quickly at all.
He preached strict adherence to
the Law including circumcision!
And it wasn’t met with well by
the Gentiles!
•
The commentators disagree with
what I’m saying here and write, “The
Gentile population was primed and
ready for this message of the Early
Church. The G-d fearers had wanted
to convert to Judaism but they didn’t
want to get circumcised and…
•
Christianity had decreed (via Acts)
that they could forgo that rite and
they were thus easily brought into the
fold of the Christian Church.”
•
•
And that’s a bunch of hooey!
The vast amount of Gentiles
that came into the Church
was much later!
•
It wasn’t during Paul’s so called
“missionary journeys” that all
these Gentiles came pouring in…
it was AFTER the Church Step
Fathers had done away with Law
and paganized the faith. It had
nothing to do with Paul!
•
•
And it wasn’t the sect of the
Nazarenes that brought in
the G-d Fearers by nullifying
G-d’s Commandments.
And I can prove it!!!
•
Remember Epiphanius ? Church Step Father.
•
•
•
“But these sectarians did not call
themselves Christians-but Nazarenes,
they are still fettered by the Law -circumcision, the Sabbath, and the
rest.”
The Nazarenes preached circumcision
and that was one of the many things
that separated them from the
Christians.
Who was the ringleader of the
Nazarenes?
•
•
•
The Nazarenes were Paul’s sect.
Acts 24:5 in talking about Paul
says…
"We have found this man to be a
troublemaker, stirring up riots
among the Jews all over the
world. He is a ringleader of the
Nazarene sect.”
•
•
•
Do you see where I’m going with this?
The Church is telling us that “Their
Guy”, Paul, was the one who was
telling all the Gentiles to become
Christians and that they didn’t have
to get circumcised.
But their own Church Father
Epiphinius informs us that Paul taught
that one must be circumcised! A voice
from the past.
•
•
I’ll make a prediction today (not
a thus saith the Lord)
I don’t make predictions very
often but this is pretty much a
sure thing.
•
As Epiphanius becomes more
known in the Church world via
Messianics quoting him, I predict
we’ll see Christian
Commentators attacking
Epiphanius’ credibility.
•
•
They’ll have to!
Because he’s too damaging
to their credibility.
•
•
Epiphanius could singlehandedly take down the
Christian Church as we know
it.
The info he gives us destroys
today’s Christian theology
•
So all this stuff we’ve been
taught in Church about Paul’s
missionary journeys about
how all these Gentiles got
Saved under his ministry…
none of it’s true.
•
•
Not a lot of Gentiles were
rushing to get circumcised.
The vast majority of people
who got Saved on his
“missionary journeys”… were
Jews.
•
•
•
“You sound awfully anti-Gentile.”
That’s because I am. I think the
whole world should become
Jews.
Just like Jesus thinks.
•
•
What’s so different then
Christians thinking the whole
world should become Christian?
Same thing, I think the whole
world should become Jewish…
and how does one do that? How
does one become a Jew?
•
•
By keeping His
Commandments.
By keeping His
Commandments we begin to
think like Yeshua, our minds
begin to be healed.
•
•
Am I really so bad for
wanting that for everyone?
Nothing wrong with being a
G-d Fearer… for a while!
•
•
•
But you can’t be a G-d Fearer
forever.
You either go forward or
backwards.
Never stagnant.
•
•
“No wait just a second Jew boy! Acts 13:44
says…
The next sabbath almost the whole city
gathered to hear the word of the Lord. But
when the Jews saw the crowds, they were
filled with jealousy; and blaspheming, they
contradicted what was spoken by Paul. Then
both Paul and Barnabas spoke out boldly,
saying,
•
"It was necessary that the word of God
should be spoken first to you. Since you
reject it and judge yourselves to be
unworthy of eternal life, we are now turning
to the Gentiles. For so the Lord has
commanded us, saying, 'I have set you to be
a light for the Gentiles, so that you may
bring salvation to the ends of the earth.' "
When the Gentiles heard this, they were
glad and praised the word of the Lord; and
as many as had been destined for eternal
life became believers (Acts 13:44-48).
•
•
They interpret this passage to
mean that the Jews rejected
Jesus and now they were
going to reach out to the
Gentiles.
3 major problems with that
idea…
•
•
•
1. The Jews did NOT reject Jesus.
I’ve shown before how over half
of Israel was Born Again.
That’s over 50%! Show me one
Gentile nation that has ever had
that kind of percentage?
•
Problem 2….
•
Let’s have a look at the world today…
•
So let’s clarify a little here…
Jesus came into His ministry
when He was 30 years old,
died when He was 33. The
events here in Acts were
approximately within 20
years after that (being
generous with 20 years).
•
So the Church wants
us to believe that the
Jews got
approximately 23 years
to “accept Him” then
they were cut off.
•
•
Then after that came the
“Time of the Gentiles” and
that’s gone on now for
almost 2,000 years and still
going.
Let’s see how that has
turned out…
•
Let’s look at the results of that effort
now as we look again at the chart.
•
•
•
5.78% in 2,000 years. I
don’t think they did so
good.
“Well what about all
those Saved Jews you
were talkin about, how’d
they do?”
Not so good either….
•
•
•
…Because the Christians
killed most of us.
So… we Jews, according to
this theology, only got 23
years and the Gentiles are
given 2,000 years so far.
That’s problem 2
3rd problem…
•
•
•
Let’s take another look at
the portion in Acts…
Paul and Barnabas spoke out
"It was necessary that the
word of God should be
spoken first to you.
•
Since you reject it and judge
yourselves to be unworthy of eternal
life, we are now turning to the
Gentiles. For so the Lord has
commanded us, saying, 'I have set you
to be a light for the Gentiles, so that
you may bring salvation to the ends of
the earth.' "
•
•
•
•
What is the Hebrew word for
Gentiles?
What can it mean?
Anyone who is not a Jew and
it can mean “Nations”
Let’s look at an example…
Genesis 10:5 KJV
By these were the isles of the Gentiles divided in their lands; every one after his tongue,
after their families, in their nations.
FYI…In the King James Old Testament, the Hebrew words “goy” and “goyim” are
translated nation(s) 373 times, heathen(s) 142 times, gentiles 30 times, people(s) 11
times,
Once, the Jewish people are even referred to as a goy , a "holy nation.” Goy Kadosh
Exodus 19:6, God says that the Children of Israel will be 'a kingdom of priests and a holy
nation,' that is, a goy kadosh.
So when you come across the
word “goy” or “goyim” it’s usually
going to be translated as Nations.
373 times (Nations) compared to
30 times(Gentile) is a big ratio. So
most of the times by far, the word
goy is going to be translated
Nations.
•
•
So now that you’ve been armed with that… let’s
read again… Paul and Barnabas spoke out
"It was necessary that the word of God should
be spoken first to you. Since you reject it and
judge yourselves to be unworthy of eternal life,
we are now turning to the Gentiles (nations).
For so the Lord has commanded us, saying, 'I
have set you to be a light for the Gentiles
(nations), so that you may bring salvation to
the ends of the earth.‘ "
•
When you use the word
nations does it sound a little
different now???
•
Here’s what’s actually happening…
Paul and Barnabas are talking to a
few Jews, just a few who had
rejected Yeshua (because we now
know that all of Israel didn’t reject
Jesus and we don’t believe the Jews
only got 23 years and the Gentiles
got over 2,000 years to accept Him,
because that would be absurd)
•
these few Jews they were
talking to had heard the
Message of Yeshua just as all of
Israel had in the last 23 years
but there were a few who were
still being obstinate and Paul
was saying to those few,
•
•
“You’ve had your chance! We’re
leaving this area and are now
going to go to the Synagogues
in the NATIONS and share with
them the Message you few
obstinate people are still
rejecting.”
Paul always went to the Jew
first.
•
•
See, take the word Goy and
translate it as “Nation” instead of
“Gentile” as it should’ve been
translated and you have a
completely different theology.
The translators just turned this
passage into an anti-Semitic attack
and it stuck ever since.
•
•
•
So what’s the big deal if they did?
Are we being a little oversensitive?
It’s a big deal because by flipping
the word goy into Gentile here…
they just gave all the Gentiles
another reason to hate Jews.
•
•
•
Reason number 1: “The Jews killed
Christ”
Reason number 2: “God rejected
the Jews therefore so can we”
Turn G-d into an anti-Semite and
there’s unlimited hate you can
spew at the Children of Israel.
•
•
•
I’ll show you one more thing
concerning this passage…
When the Gentiles heard this, they
were glad and praised the word of
the Lord. Acts 13
“So obviously this passage is talking
about the Gentiles and NOT the
nations! Look at the context.”
•
•
•
Do you remember that the word
goy was also translated as “people”
11 times?
That’s how it should’ve been
translated here.
The Apostles turned to the Jews of
the nations to be a light to them
and the people were glad about it,
they felt it was time to move on.
And this portion in acts is a quote by the
way… Isaiah 49:6 CJB
he has said, "It is not enough that you
are merely my servant to raise up the
tribes of Ya'akov and restore the
offspring of Isra'el. I will also make you
a light to the nations, so my salvation
can spread to the ends of the earth."
•
Acts… "It was necessary that the word of
God should be spoken first to you. Since
you reject it and judge yourselves to be
unworthy of eternal life, we are now
turning to the Gentiles (nations). For so
the Lord has commanded us, saying, 'I
have set you to be a light for the Gentiles
(nations), so that you may bring
salvation to the ends of the earth.‘ "
•
Wanna know another big deal, this
means Paul wasn’t the Apostle to the
Gentiles. He was the Apostle to the Jews
of the Nations.
•
•
And if we all can understand that here
today, we as a Body, Beit Aveinu, can
move forward.
Because now we can begin to
understand Paul’s true motives and
goals.
•
•
•
“Are you saying Paul DIDN’T go to the
Gentiles?”
He did preach to some Gentiles SO DID
EVERY OTHER JEWISH RABBI!
How do you think there were G-d
Fearers there in the first place?
•
•
From Rabbis who’d gone there before
Paul ever went there.
This whole Christian idea that everything
changed when Paul decided to go to the
Gentiles, that Jews hadn’t reached out to
Gentiles before this…. is false.
•
•
•
•
Back to the G-d Fearers
Were there many women who
were G-d Fearers?
Very few, they didn’t have the
obstacle of circumcision to hurdle.
It was easy for them and because of
that there were many women
proselytes to Judaism.
•
•
Judaism was the smart women's
choice of faith.
It still is.
•
The few women G-d Fearer’s were
women that had only recently
heard about Judaism or women
who had high positions in
whichever Governments that
would’ve frowned on them being
Jewish.
•
Cornelius's wife was more then
likely a proselyte, as were all the
other woman of that household.
•
•
•
Becoming a Jew was and is the
natural progression of the faith.
One can’t stay a G-d Fearer forever.
You’re either moving forward or
backwards, never stagnant.
Let’s stand for the benediction.
THE END
