Jupiter • Jupiter is the fourth brightest object in the sky after the Sun, The moon, and Venus. Ajon Daniel & Melvin Melgar History • Galileo discovered Jupiter ‘s first four moons in 1610 by pointing a telescope in the sky. • Jupiter was named after the kings of gods, the ruler of Olympus and the patron of the son of Cronus. (Saturn) Solar System • Jupiter is the fifth planet from the sun. • Jupiter is 483,800,000 miles from the sun. • It takes 9 hours and 56 hours to orbit the sun. Moons • Jupiter has 63 moons but 16 are only known. • The known moons are: – Metis, Adrasthea, Thebe Io, Europa, Ganymede, Callisto, Leda, Himalia, Lysithea, Elara, Anake, Carne, Pasiphae, and Sinope. Planet appearance • Jupiter is a gas giant. • It is the biggest planet out of all of the planets in our solar system. • The colors are a combination of brown, white, a little red and yellow. • Jupiter’s surface temperature is 166 degrees Fahrenheit. Rings • Jupiter has one faint ring that you really can’t see. • This ring is mainly made out of dust. Exploration Interesting Facts • Jupiter has a big red spot that is a storm that has been going for over 400 years. • Jupiter’s greek name is Zeus Pater. • The Juno Mission will arrive at Jupiter in 2016.
