Road Map to Success: The Cold War
World History II
The end of World War II did not signal the end of conflict.
In fact, a new kind of war was born: The Cold War.
The Cold War was an ideological conflict between the
United States and the Soviet Union. The two countries
would oppose each other in places like Korea, Cuba,
Vietnam, and the Middle East. The main objectives for the
USA and USSR (Soviet Union) were to establish supremacy
in the world, and preserve or spread their own system of
government; Democracy for the United States and
Communism for Russia.
The Cold War was the most tense time in world history
because the United States and the Soviet Union both had
stockpiles of nuclear weapons. If these two superpowers
ever fought each other directly using nuclear weapons, life
on earth would have been drastically changed forever.
