muscles of the internal organs

Sympathetic Nervous System
 Arouses
the body
 Accelerate heartbeat, slow
digestion, raise blood sugar, cool
you with perspiration, make you
alert and ready
Parasympathetic Nervous System
 Calms
the body
 Conserves energy needed
within the body
 Decrease your heartbeat, lower
blood sugar, etc...
Neuron

nerve cell; the basic building
block of the nervous system
Smallest unit of the brain
 Sends and receives messages
throughout the body

between sensory and motor

Sensory Neurons
 Located
mainly in the PNS
 carry incoming information
from the sensory receptors to
the CNS
 We have millions of sensory
neurons
Motor Neurons
 Located
mainly in the PNS
 carry outgoing information
from the CNS to the PNS
 We have millions of motor
neurons
