Living Organisms!
 1. Cellular Structure and Function : Living
things are organized into cells; a cell is the
smallest unit capable of all life functions
 unicellular- composed of only one cell
 multicellular- composed of more than one cell
 2. Reproduction: a process by which
organisms make more of their own kind
 asexual reproduction- a single parent produces
identical offspring
 sexual reproduction- two parents are necessary to
produce offspring; offspring not identical to either
parent
Living Organisms!
 3. Metabolism: All of the chemical
reactions carried out in an organism. All
organisms have processes that are
fueled by energy from these chemical
reactions.
 4. Homeostasis: The maintenance
(keeping) of stable internal conditions in
spite of changes to the outside
environment. Ex. temperature
Living Organisms!
 5. Heredity: The passing of traits from parent
to offspring. A gene is the basic unit of heredity.
 6. Evolution: The change in the inherited
traits over generations. Evolution happens
because of natural selection.
Living Organisms!
 7. Interdependence – Organisms are
dependant on each other as well as their
environment. It is a result of a long history of
evolutionary adjustments.

Opener
 Choose an organism and apply the 7
qualities to that organism!
What’s going on in the
biological world today?
 List 5 things that
are current in the
biological world.
Opener
 You need to summarize your notes on
both Scientific Method and Living
Qualities on page 16-17. It must be at
least15-17 sentences in length.
Quiz part 2
 Starbucks has hired you to decide which coffee
should be their next big seller. They have given
you FIVE blends to both taste and name. You
need to develop an experiment to test the five
blends and decide which one should be their
next big seller. You must run an experiment
using the 6 steps of the scientific method.
Good luck, create the next big seller and you
could strike it big!
