The photos used in this presentation are of the Rocky Mountain National Park Map Location Rocky Mountain National Park is located in Colorado When it Was Established • The Rocky Mountain was established in 1915 by Grafton Rogers, Joe Mills, and other Colorado citizens • The park was created because of it’s natural beauty which should be shared with everyone How the Rocky Mountains Were Formed Types of Rock in Rocky Mountain National Park •The earliest rocks found in the park are gneiss, schist, and granite Granite Schist Gneiss What Landforms are Found in the Park •The Rocky Mountains are mostly mountains with valleys, streams, rivers and lakes running through them How is the Land Changing The land changes very slowly and it is mostly the way it has been for thousands of years except for some erosion Rocky Mountain National Park Environmental Issues •Serious problems have arisen as a result of timber harvesting, grazing, oil exploration, mining, and reservoir operations in the Rockies. logging and oil exploration have been responsible for accelerated slope erosion •There are also problems with infestations such as the “pine beetle epidemic” killing acres of trees How Does the Park Use Technology Mostly as a tool to better communicate and interact with visitors by providing better information, maps, and social media.
