The heart beats 60-80 times per minute (nonexercise) in an adult. In a youth 75-95 times per minute (non-exercise) Heart Left side of your heart pumps blood through the arteries with fresh oxygen— blood is red Right side of your heart takes in blood returning from your veins, blood is deoxygenated. The blood is blue. The right side pumps blood to the lungs where carbon dioxide is exchanged for oxygen in the lungs 2-28-13 DSQ Quiz-Correct CH due Friday, March 1st REVIEW Main Parts of the Circulatory System Main Function of the Circulatory System Heart Facts OBJ To trace the flow of blood through the heart Assign WS Go over Super Machine Diagrams Heart-Diagram 3-1-13 DSQ 49A Correct & Assign CH (due Tuesday, March 5th ) Heart Chart due Tuesday March 5th REVIEW Main Function of the Circulatory System Main Parts of the Circulatory System Heart Facts Trace flow of blood through the heart OBJ Go over Supermachine Diagrams Look at a blocked artery 4 Chambers of the Heart What are Valves Assign Heart Diagram WS Blocked Artery in the Heart Blocked Artery After Surgery Heart Chambers Left Atrium-receives blood from the lungs Left Ventricle Right Atriumreceives blood from the body Right Ventricle Valve Valves- keep blood from flowing backwards in the heart http://www.marvistavet.com/html/body_pulmonic_stenosis.html 3-4-13 DSQ 49B Correct “The Heart” Heart Chart WS due Tuesday, March 5th CH due Tuesday, March 5th REVIEW Main Function of the Circulatory System Main Parts of the Circulatory System Heart Facts Valves OBJ To understand Arteries To understand Veins Arteries Arteries- carry blood away from the heart (Blood is oxygenated ‘red’ in MOST arteries) Pulmonary Arteries carry deoxygenated blood (Blue blood) Veins Veins- carry blood to the heart (Blood is deoxygenated ‘blue’ in most veins) Pulmonary Veins carry oxygenated blood (Red blood) Arteries in the Body Veins in the Body 3-5-13 DSQ 50A Heart Charts corrected Correct & Assign “Current Health” REVIEW Main Function of the Circulatory System Main Parts of the Circulatory System Veins, Arteries, & Valves 4 Chambers of the Heart OBJ To understand the blood: The main parts of blood & the main types of blood Types of Veins & Arteries Arteries • Aorta • Pulmonary Arteries Veins • Superior Vena Cava • Inferior Vena Cava • Pulmonary Veins Blood Blood carries food, oxygen, waste, & hormones Liquid part of blood is plasma Blood is red in most arteries Blood is a dark reddish (brown) after delivering oxygen Blood takes in fresh oxygen at the lungs 4 Types of Blood A B AB O Blood Types Information Blood types become very important when a blood transfusion is necessary. In a blood transfusion, a patient must receive a blood type that is compatible with his or her own blood type—that is, the donated blood must be accepted by the patient's own blood. If the blood types are not compatible, red blood cells will clump together, making clots that can block blood vessels and cause death. Type O– blood is considered the “universal donor” because it can be donated to people of any blood type. Type AB+ blood is considered the “universal recipient” because people with this type can receive any blood type.
