How do I know which
verb to use when
writing a sentence?
SPI 0401.1.2 Identify the correct use of verbs within context.
What is a verb?
• A action verb tells what the subject does,
did, or will do.
• What does the dog do?
• The dog barks.
Let’s
practice…
action verbs
Let’s review…verbs!
How do I know which verb tense
to use?
• Verbs have different tenses that can show action:
•
present The dog barks.
•
past The dog barked.
•
future The dog will bark.
Let’s review…verb tenses!
When do I use a linking verb?
• A verb can include more than one word, a main verb and
a linking verb.
• The dog is barking.
• During the afternoon, my cats are content to nap on the
couch.
• Areing isn't something that cats can do. Are is
connecting the subject, cats, to something said about
them, that they enjoy sleeping on the furniture.
