Plates
The lithosphere is divided into plates that move
slowly in relation to each other.
Plates
When the plates move, it creates stress on the
earth’s crust and causes the deformation of
rocks and the earth’s crust.
Can you think of any examples of these
deformations?
Plate Boundaries
Convergent:
Moving together,
often by one plate
plunging under the
other
Divergent:
Rifting or moving
apart
Transform:
Horizontal slippage
along fault line
Plate Boundaries
Back to Faults
We can see that a
transform plate
boundary (when
two plates grind
horizontally) causes
strike-slip faults to
occur.
