SUMMARY: The successful candidate will be an experienced front-end developer who has good user
interface design sensibilities, and will employ .Net development knowledge to implement digital
solutions in support the initiatives of the University. You will build website, applications and extend
functionality of our content management system (Sitefinity), from concept to completion, from the
bottom up, including layout and function.
The ideal developer will have a passion for front-end implementation, integrations, and will also
understand and/or help design solutions for the back end. He or she should have a solid understanding
of, and experience working with a .NET-based content management system.
The front-end developer needs to have the skills to work both independently and as part of project
teams, and must keep abreast of the latest trends in development and digital marketing disciplines such
as Visual Studio, content management systems, and search engine optimization. He or she must have
good communication and collaboration skills. The preferred candidate will strive for personal growth
and success, and bring an entrepreneurial spirit to the job.
This role will report to the Director of Web Marketing Strategy, and be an integral part of the Office of
Marketing and Communications.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be
assigned.

Develop user interfaces for web-based applications and/or mobile sites and apps, including
landing pages, microsites, search engine results pages and dynamic forms
·
Implement HTML & CSS into content management systems as templates
·
Implement new functionality enabled through the CMS (Sitefinity)
·
Program standards-compliant, accessible HTML and CSS
·
Analyze client and constituent business and technical needs and integrate data from various
back-end services and databases; gather and refine specifications and requirements based on
technical need
·
Work with Information Technology to coordinate back-end technology efforts
·
Help refine processes, procedures, and standards related to Web development with the
Director
·

Interpret client information and communicate effectively with clients and internal team
members throughout the development process; work as part of project teams that include
people in technical and management roles
Create and maintain a customer-friendly user experience across the University Web
properties using a passion for elegant, intuitive user interfaces with a strong understanding
of common interactions and user habits
Help ensure general usability, accessibility, and Section 508 compliance as well as crossplatform and cross-browser compatibility
Create, select, and/or optimize graphics, photos and video for use on the Web in conjunction
with marketing communications team and per brand standards
Provide clients end-user support for their websites
Create technical user guides and provide troubleshooting support to end-users
Keep up with new development and design technology, continually researching new trends
and evaluating/testing software for use on the Otterbein site; provide general feedback and
ideas as part of the overall web team

QUALIFICATIONS: The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:
Bachelor’s degree in computer science or related field and 3-5 years of experience building Web
applications in a client/server environment. Applicants must have excellent interpersonal and mentoring
skills, the ability to work well on a team and be self-motivated. This position will require the ability to
manage multiple projects simultaneously.
LANGUAGE SKILLS:
Must demonstrate excellent verbal and written English skills including grammar. Must be able to
communicate with both technical and non-technical constituencies and explain complex technical
solutions to non-technical clients and constituents.
TECHNICAL SKILLS:
General requirements:
·
Experience developing websites built for and with template-based content management
systems, secure document management systems, and/or other content delivery platforms
(Sitefinity, Sidearm, SharePoint)
·
Expert CSS and HTML skills
·
Experience building user-facing systems and programming standards-compliant
JavaScript/jQuery
·
Web-based application development using ASP.NET, Visual Studio
·
Database development activities using Microsoft SQL Server
·
Experience working with a .NET-based content management system, (preferably Sitefinity)
to extend marketing capabilities and functionality
·
Ability to troubleshoot existing code, debugging and problem solving using relevant tools
Solid understanding of Web standards and what’s acceptable/what isn’t particularly in terms
of cross-browser/platform compatibility.
·
Basic understanding of back-end server environments and networking requirements, and the
ability to work with technical resources to ensure stability
·
Be knowledgeable on responsive design architecture and principles
Additional skills and experience preferred candidates would possess:
·
Know your way around social network APIs: Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn
·
Working with version control systems
·
Experience working with or in associations and/or not-for-profits
·
Working knowledge of W3C standards and Section 508 guidelines
·
Basic knowledge of user-centered design process and methods
·
Understanding of SEO concepts and their implementation.
DEMONSTRATION OF SKILLS: Candidate must submit three URLs of sites that they have been
instrumental in developing. Include a description of their role in the development of each site.

well on a team, provide excellent customer service and be self-motivated. This position will require the
ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
