The Case For Alternative Assessment • Needs to fit the child • Practices should involve students • Activities should reflect the same life experiences and value of the learner • Programs should be multifaceted Advantages of an Electronic Portfolio • Can include multimedia elements – pictures, sound, animation, video. • Large audience’s can view via presentation equipment • Easily to store / share by use of ZIP disks, CD’s, or Internet • Provides rich, more personal data than paper based assessments Advantages of an Electronic Portfolio • Can link to other documents outside of the original program including web sites • Can effectively organize and present large amounts of information • Can be easily revised • Dynamic vehicles that students and staff will improve on over time
