Batu Madness Project Plan Mission Statement The Batu Madness Project is a plan to address the drug abuse among the youth by providing education, awareness and alternatives to the crystal-methamphetamine epidemic on Kauai. The Team Project Coordinator- Dave Frye Qualifications: Project Coordinator for a similar project in Washington state, Project Street Kids. During a 7 year period, had a success rate of 67% in getting kids off meth amphetamines. Assistant Coordinator/Public RelationsCyndi Miranda Qualifications: 8 years in public relations for a Contracting company. Various volunteer work with non-profits. Secretary/Treasurer- to be selected Volunteers to fill numerous positions Market Summary A “Test” project was set up and overall ran for about a year. A separate presentation follows of that project and the outcome. Research shows a drug abuse rate in the Hawaiian Islands of 20% higher than anywhere else in the U.S. There is an abuse rate of approximately 30% in the middle schools, climbing to as high as 50% in the high schools, among teachers as well as students. In certain areas of the island, you can purchase crystal-meth in every third home. Opportunities: There are three primary factors that contribute to the high rate of abuse among youth on Kauai. First, the boredom caused by a lack of activities for the younger generation. Second, the domestic abuse in the form of sexual, physical and verbal. Third, the high cost of living, the “kids” are usually left “parentless” without sufficient guidance, therefore leaving them more susceptible to peer pressure. Opportunities: This project will offer the youth alternatives to the crystal-methamphetamine drug culture on Kauai. An animated Drug-Education movie , which follows the basic story-line of the classical movie “Reefer Madness” will be produced. It will be an animation to appeal to the younger generation. A 3-D computer animation ‘center’ will be set up. Local Middle and High school students will be able to volunteer for evening and weekend classes. This, along with the diversionary aspect will put the movie to the “local mindset” therefore making the movie more effective. Project Concept Diversionary projects, such as “watershed restoration” and shoreline and public access areas cleanup and beautification, are being developed as a form of “weekend camp” outings. These outings are planned as a form of ‘out-reach’ to the youth involved in the drug culture. As more become involved, there are plans for other participation projects such as alternative housing and power production, workshops on starting your own business, and others as well as computer related projects and classes on WWW businesses. Project Concept (con’t) Other diversionary projects are being developed to allow participation by a greater number of youths in the different areas of the island. Goals & Objectives The movie, when released, will be made available to all schools, nationwide for a customary fee. Proceeds from the movie, along with monies raised in various other fund raisers will be used to help establish and maintain : “Safe Houses/Treatment Centers” for youth which are living in a “high risk” environment. A 24/7 “Hotline” for troubled youth manned by 24/7 ‘youth centers’ manned by volunteers. Goals & Objectives Hopefully, this will be the pilot project to be ran yearly and in other parts of the U.S. Financial Plan For the purpose of this business plan, only the costs associated with the production of the movie and interim projects will be addressed There will only be 3 paid positions for this project, and we will assume a production time of one year or less Cost Overview Paid Staff – 90K Space – 50K Equipment – 70K Operations – 35K “Involvement” Projects 30K Misc. – 30K Key Issues Near term Obtain funding Set up Animation Studio along with a center for ‘operations’.
