The Effects of Resveratrol and
Alcohol on Short Term Memory in
Drosophila Melanogaster
By Paul Mascali
Need
Alcohol
 A drug found
through the
fermentation of
fruits
 Alcohol deactivates
the genes protein
kinase and sirtuin 1
Resveratrol
 Resveratrol is a chemical
that is found in plants
 Resveratrol activates the
protein kinase and sirituin

Memory Perception
Resveratrol on lifespan in Drosophila and C.
Elegans
 Bass, 2007
 Resveratrol was inserted
in the drosophila food at
1, 3.2, 10, 32, 100, 200,
and 1000 mM
 Resveratrol was
dissolved at a 1:1000 to
molten agar NGM ratio
during preparation of
plates for C. Elegans

Purpose
The purpose of this experiment is to see
how alcohol and resveratrol effects the
short term memory in Drosophila
Melanogaster
Hypothesis
 Null Hypothesis: There will be no significant
difference between the control group, the
group exposed to alcohol, and the group
exposed to resveratrol.
 Alternative Hypothesis: The groups that are
exposed to resveratrol will show more of an
increase in short term memory than the control
and the groups exposed to alcohol
