Globular Clusters M3 and M53 (Spring Astronomy)
1.Locate the Bright StarArcturus
(Hint, Follow the Arc to Arcturus).
2. Locate Alpha Canis Venetici
3. M3 is approx 1/3 of the way
on that line, just a little off to the
right.

Next stop: Fainter Globular
Cluster M53:
2. Follow the line to the next
bright star to the West, called
Muphrid.
3. Now locate Alpha Coma
Berenices, the bottom of the
right triangle
M53 is above and to the left of
Alpha Coma Berenices. Nudge
the scope up and eastward to
find it.
The pair of stars in the wide field
help you confirm you have
found it.

Find the Keystone of Hercules:
Look at the top of the keystone
and drop down from the top right
(west) side about 1/3 the
distance.

From the top of the keystone,
draw an equilateral triangle.
M92 is slightly to the left of the
apex. Try and focus on the cluster
to resolve individual stars
Twice the distance of M13 (35,000
ly).
