As Minnesota’s first green children’s hospital, the facility features an environmentally sensitive design, eco-friendly materials and green spaces, including a healing garden. The 96-bed hospital has a dedicated pediatric emergency department with 10 treatment rooms, two trauma bays, six stateof-the-art operating suites, and a children’s observation and sedation unit. Designed for Safety In our new facility, a team of hospital experts, architects and safety design professionals worked to create a safer, more effective and efficient health-care environment. Safety features in the facility include decentralized team stations, which allow care providers to spend less time outside patient rooms and eliminate distances and distractions that can undermine safety. Same-handed rooms encourage repetition and standardization that reduce the chance for errors. Designed for Experience A guiding principle for the hospital has been separation of the “on-stage” public areas used by patients and families and the “off-stage” areas staff need to be provide seamless care. On each patient floor, a central corridor with dedicated service elevators are used to bring all supplies, laundry, medications and equipments to units, greatly reducing noise and clutter in the main corridors. Designed for Teamwork and Collaboration Patient and family involvement in the treatment of children is central to the hospital’s approach to care. That’s why the children’s hospital created space and design features that support parents being at the hospital as much as possible. Large, private patient rooms, family lounges, and laundry facilities all allow families to have a more comfortable experience. Provider Passport We offer Provider Passport, a quarterly print and online communications tool that offers information — many of it directly from our physicians — about medical conditions that we treat as well as information on when your patients might need to see one of our specialists; we offer more than 50 pediatric specialties. As well, Provider Passport gives details about new providers, physician-education opportunities, and researchrelated topics. Smartphone Application Our Web-based smartphone application gives providers quick and easy access to Provider Passport, our online communication and resource tool, as well as direct access to the Amplatz directory of Services — filled with information about our more than 50 pediatric specialties. the application also includes a pediatric dosage calculator for providers to use.
