Where Do You Begin?
It is all about the research…
• social networks review
• social networking Top Ten reviews
Researching Process •
Important considerations:
– Does my school or any other offices at my school utilize any sites to communicate with students?
– Is there anyone at my school who currently runs a site that could provide me with information?
– Regulations/guideline?
– What sites am I or my staff most familiar with?
– What sites do students utilize the most?
– Who will be responsible for monitoring the content of the site?
– Consider a student focus group for feedback
Prep for Implementation
• Begin with one site • Consider you/your staff’s availability to work and manage the site
• Familiarize yourself with legalities at your school, rules of uniformity and site security
• Determine what features the site has, what will you utilize and what you will not use

Communication is Key
• Talk to your Colleagues!
• Find out what other Financial Aid or Student Service offices are doing
• What do their sites look like?
• What is working or not working for them?
• What works for your student demographic?
Don’t Forget…
• Social Media/New Media are often not mass communication forums, there generally is a targeted or voluntary audience.
• Is your office prepared to serve students on their terms and in their timeframe?
• Be Prepared before you launch it!
• Discussion/Questions
