Casting Call… Leaving Iowa
Director Michael PJ Foos will be
holding open auditions for a
comedy about family vacations,
Leaving Iowa on December 5 &
6 at FCT at 7pm.
Tryouts for Leaving Iowa
will be held December
5 & 6.
The show by Tim Clue and
Spike Manton is produced by
special arrangement with Dramatic Publishing.
The spark behind Leaving Iowa
comes from being children of
parents from the now dubbed
"greatest generation". The story
is a toast to their idealism and
character, and a little roast of
their undying dedication to the
classic family road trip. More
specifically, it is the story of
Don Browning, a middle-aged
writer, who returns home and
decides to finally take his father's ashes to his childhood
home, as requested. But when
Don discovers Grandma's
house is now a grocery store,
he begins traveling across Iowa
searching for a proper resting
place for his father. This fatherand-son road trip shifts
smoothly from the present to
Don's memories of the annual,
torturous vacations of his childhood. Don's existential journey
leads him to reconcile his past
and present at the center of the
United States. Leaving Iowa is a
postcard to anyone who has
ever found himself or herself
driving alone on a road, revisiting fond memories of his or her
youth.
Cast: 2 Women, 2 Men, and
multiple roles for 1 man and 1
woman
Production Dates: January 2123, 28-30 2011

Tagline Contest Results
Unfortunately, FCT did not bring
home the top honors in the
2010 Getting Attention Tagline
Awards Competition. However,
just like is said about the Academy Awards, "It is an honor to
be nominated!" We still have
plenty of
bragging
rights, our
tagline,
More than
a stage in
your life,
placed in the top three of the
arts and culture category out of
over 2,700 total entries worldwide! Did we not win first place
because the other taglines
were better?, NO, chances are
we just didn't have the votes,
like with every production and
project that FCT undertakes, it
requires the dedication and
commitment of all of the members to make it a success. All I
can hope for is that when your
talents, strong back or few
hours of your time are asked
for, you'll be there to
prove that FCT has been,
More than a stage in your
life.

Spotlight on… Sue Stotz
My family and I moved from
Saginaw, MI to Fremont
when I was 7 yrs old. I joined
Campfire which lasted 5
years though I did learn to
sew and still do so now. I
started piano lessons. These
lasted 9 years. Ballet lessons
lasted 3 years and I still can't
dance. And for some reason, I
tried out for children's theater
and got a part. I don't know
who was more surprised, my
Mother or me. Piglet. Hated
the snout. Loved Ivy Sprunk
and the tiny rehearsal space
off the end of the shopping
center and the run down to
Isley's Ice Cream after practice. Loved the stage at the
Junior High School. Loved
the audience response and all
the fascinating people both on
the stage and behind the
scenes with whom I was
privileged to work.
I went on to Teen Theatre
where we performed on
school stages, in churches,
and downtown at the cinema.
I got to play with a kitten in
David and Lisa, a piglet in Lil
Abner, and sing, and play,
and laugh in many fine productions.
I don't remember ever being
afraid of being on the stage.
Nervous. Excited. And sometimes anxious. Yes. Will the
audience like the show? Will
I remember all my lines? Will
they understand the show?
Nerves, most definitely, but
never really scared. I enjoy
the fact that each performance
will be unique and I try to
remember that each audience
deserves the best I can do.
Then as an adult I enjoyed
roles like Julie in Jake's
Women, Bella in Lost in
Yonkers for which I earned an
Excellence in acting award at
OCTA, and Sheree in Dixie
Swim Club where I made
friends with some very special ladies. And, of course, I
make costumes. I hope my
fellow actors will forgive me
for putting them in something
to suit their particular character that may not be all the
flattering or comfortable.
Please don't take it personally.
I would love to mention all
the important talented people
that I have met at FCT, but
my list is long and I don't
want to leave anyone out. So
all I can say is a heartfelt
“Thank you.” I am looking
forward to making new
friends, working on and in
new and challenging shows
because theater is “more than
a stage in my life.”
