Phil Campbell, Ala. -- Mr. Lanny McAlister, Director of NW-SCC Summer Theatre, will direct NorthwestShoals summer theatrical performance entitled, The Compleat Works of Willm Shkspr (abridged),
Thursday and Friday, July 21 & 22, 2005, at 7:30 p.m. The abridged version was written by the Reduced
Shakespeare Company and consists of 37 plays in 97 minutes. The production will be performed in the
Lou B. Bevill Fine Arts Center located on Northwest-Shoals Community College’s Phil Campbell campus.
The acting company of Northwest-Shoals’ Summer Theatre, Bryan Hall (of Russellville, AL), Nathan
Strickland (of Russellville, AL), and Daniel Burcham (of Clermont, FL), will attempt, in one short evening, a
feat which is believed to be unprecedented in the history of the theatre. “That is, to capture, in a single
theatrical experience, the magic, the genius, the towering grandeur of ‘The Complete Works of William
Shakespeare’.
The show has been called, “Part Three Stooges, part Smothers and Marx brothers and part circus
clowns.” Reviewers agree that the show is “parodying, pulverizing, lampooning, skewering, scissoring or
deconstructing the Bard’s work and that Shakespeare’s quiet rest in his Stratford grave is certainly
endangered.”
Due to the mature humor, the play is not recommended for children. Tickets are $5.00 and will be
available at the door.
