Not Born with Dimples? Make one. Or Two.

Who doesn't like anyone with cheek dimples? They instantly sweeten a
smile and soften the hearts of the onlookers. Some also believe that dimples
are a sign of good luck. I say, it is a useful weapon to melt any hearts...
Look at how pretty our resident blogger, Huirong (on the left) is, when she smiles. Lucky her to
be born with 2 cute dimples.
If you are not born with one (or two) and badly want it, you might want to consider dimpleplasty.

Dimple plastic surgery is painless under local anesthesia. Dimples are formed when there is a
depression in the cheek muscle causing the skin to sink in when one smiles - causing a dimple
in the skin. However, the size and position of your dimples have to be advised by the doctor for
natural-looking ones.
Dimples are considered as a sign of good luck, apart from adding beauty to a smile. Dimples
are formed when there is a defect in the cheek muscle (buccinator muscle). The skin overlying
this defect is stuck down to the underlying connective tissue which creates a dimple in the skin
with change in facial expression, like smiling. Dimples can be created on other parts of the face
like the chin without any external incisions.
The entire process lasts from half to an hour. The incisions are made in the inside of the
cheeks, not the surface, so there will be no scarring on the face. First, the surgeon will punch a
biopsy instrument in the inner cheek which cuts through the cheek muscle - this is to ensure
that the dimple will be formed naturally with change in facial expression. {youtube width="600" height="400"}1mDpxJZptHU{/youtube}
You have to take care post surgery. Gargle your mouth with antiseptic mouthwash regularly and
eat soft food such as porridge and soup (great time for dieting, aye?) You will usually be given
antibiotics and painkillers. It takes about two weeks to fully recover.
Apparently, not many clinics perform dimpleplasty. Raffles Media Group, Dermatology
Associates Pte Ltd (Gleneagles Hospital), Plastic Surgery and Hair Clinic Hospital, The
Aesthetic Studio (Mount Elizabeth Medical Centre) do not perform it. Dimpleplasty is not cheap either. We have listed some clinics below for your reference - GST
not included in the prices. If you have gone for dimpleplasty before, do share with us your
experience in the comments.
