The Casualties
of World War II
Price: free!
Before World War II the countries Germany,
Russia, America, England, and France were all in an
economy depression. The countries were left dirt poor
after World War I. Germany was in what is called a
hyperinflated economy. At this time Russia was
by Chris Wadlow
starting the first communist government. Soon Hitler
would take his place in his country’s government.
Hitler saw the perfect opportunity of reversing the effects of World War I by promising German
citizens a stronger economy and military. After being elected, Hitler kept his promise of having a better
military, by joining Austria and the Sudetenland, part of Czechoslovakia, creating what would soon be
known as the Third Reich.
In Japan the military took control of the government and started a campaign of taking over all of
Asia. After a few years the bloodiest war in known history began.
Hitler soon started a campaign to exact Germany’s revenge on those who tried to destroy
Germany in World War I. To get his people to follow him he decided to influence the Germans to
become Nazis’. The people of Germany didn’t wish to get involved in another war but like all humans
they needed to blame somebody else because of their suffering. Hitler knew most Germans believed in
Christ so, being believers, he reminded the Germans that Jews killed Jesus. There were millions of
Jews in Germany so Hitler said God was angry that Jews lived in Germany and it was the Jews fault for
all the suffering. Angered, most of the Germans became Nazis’ and started to look upon Jews as a
disease.
On September 1, 1939 Hitler, without declaration of war, invaded Poland. Germany, with ease,
defeated Poland. Over 1.25 million Germans soldiers went to war but 14,000 Germans died. At the end
of the war Germany had over 5.69 million casualties. Russia had 27 million casualties. England had
495,000 casualties. America had 413,000 casualties. Japan had 2 million casualties. These are not all
the casualties but are the biggest, making this the bloodiest war in history.

1940’s Music
By: Mike Maldonado
Music has been with us since the beginning of time which I have heard. During the 1940’s the jazz and
big band styles were a big hit. One of the biggest music styles was Dizzy Gillespie known as his trademark
puffy cheeks being prominent jazz trumpeter. The 1940’s was the time for new artists to come out with their
new break through songs and make history. There was one person name Cab Calloway he was a jazz singer
that started singing during the 1940’s. Bing Crosby helped defined the music of the 1940’s as well as much of
the music today isn’t that awesome. Some of the songs are pretty cool also like:
1.) When You Wish Upon a Star-Glenn Miller
2.) In the Mood – Glenn Miller
3.) When the Swallows Come Back to Capistrano- Ink Spots
4.) Body and Soul- Coleman Hawkins
5.) Frenesi- Artie Shaw
6.) Tuxedo Junction- Glenn Miller
7.) I’ll Never Smile Again-Tommy Dorsey
8.) Sierra Sue-Bing Crosby
9.) Blueberry Hill- Glenn Miller
10.) Careless- Glenn Miller
11.) Ferryboat Serenade-Andrews Sisters
There are more songs but I’m not going to list them all. I love music and hope that you do too it’s really
interesting to listen to the rhythm of the music the beat and the lyrics of the song I love to hear new things from
the past to the present which is good because our Journalism teacher Mr. Dibble listens to all kinds of music.
Which makes everything more interesting when we are learning? Thanks for reading my article.
The
Fuhrerbunker
Jose Badillo
Hitler’s Fuhrerbunker was located under
Hitler’s New Reich Chancellor at Berlin, Germany.
Adolf Hitler and Eva Braun stared at the Bunker until
April 30, 1945.
The Bunker was made for a temporary airraid shelter for Hitler, but later made that bunker
permanent shelter for Hitler. The Hitler’s bunker
was protected by four meters of concrete and the
bunker had 30 small rooms were distributed over two levels they were exits that led to the gardens.
The building was built in two phases. The first phase was built in 1936, the second phase was built in
1943. The 1943 development was built by Hochtief Company and the construction in Berlin began in
1940. In January 16, 1945 Martin Bormann, Evan Braun and Joseph Gobbles with Magda and their
six children moved in with Hitler, but took the upper Vorbunker. Medical and administrative staffs
were sheltered which included Hitler’s secretary, a nurse named Erna Flegel a telephonist named
Rochus Misch and Hitler’s dog Blond. They occupied the underground bunker. Hitler would
sometimes stroll around the chancellery garden with Blond, until March of 1945 when shelling
became very common.

The American troops were given k-rations with gum
tablets from Wrigley Company for free. Wrigley knew
exactly what he was doing because as American troops going to other countries and spreading the joy of gum
everyone would want gum. It was not just given to the militaries but also to a girl’s baseball team known at the
time the Chicago bears.
In England the kids found out that the American troops were given k rations with little tablets of gum.
Every time they saw an American G.I. they would say “Ya have any gum chum?” That’s were Murray Kane
found the idea for the song, “Ya have any gum chum?”
As it became popular in America there did other bands and orchestras want to make there own version.
When Fred and his band recorded the song it wasn’t released to America until the 1950s released by Decca
Records. Also it was
recorded b Glenn Miller
Orchestra in November
1945 before they shortly
disbanded. Glenn’s
version was recorded
for a radio broadcast.
The next year Ray
McKinley recorded
with a billboard review
that described it as

version was released as
the b-side to his version
of “we’ll Gather Lilacs”
from Ivor Novello’s
