BIANCO CRISTAL Hardness: Structure: Synonyms: Group: Petrographic assignment: Age: Colouring minerals: Average hardness: Deposit: hard homogeneous structure Blanco Cristal, White Cristal Plutonic rocks - Plutonite Granite 300 million years (carboniferous) White and ivory feldspar, grey transparent quartz, black biotite 6 (according to Mohs's hardness scale 1-10) / Natural stone Spain - in the Sierra de Credos, south-east of Madrid, near the village of Cadaloso de los Vidrios Petrography: The mountains of Central Spain are famous for their enormous granite content from which the brighter types in particular are quarried. Bianco Cristal is among the most popular of stones, one of the lightest coloured of Europe's granites. It has up to 1 cm.- sized orthoclase feldspars, some of which, in the centre, can be slightly ivory -hued, alternating with smaller purely white plagioclase feldspars. The quartz occurs in a bright grey colour or is transparent like glass. The upper portions of the Bianco Cristal fractures may discolour to lightly yellow due to oxidation of the iron-containing mica portions. Petrogenesis: Bianco Cristal was created from a bright feldspar and quartz-rich magma that slowly crystallised in the lower earth crust. As a result of the even cooling process over millions of years, a uniform grain system was built up. Hint: The close-up view of each stone type shows a relatively true image of the crystalline structure and the colouring. This is suitable for grained slabs to a limited extend only. In regard to the colour matching, please take an original sample of the stone from your furniture store as a basis.
