Earth Overshoot Day

∗ August 19 was Earth Overshoot Day 2015, marking the date when humanity
has exhausted nature’s budget for the year.
∗ This indicator shows the impact of human activity on the planet ecosystem
and measures what is required to feed human activity.
∗ For the rest of the year, We will be operating in overshoot. We will be
maintaining our ecological deficit by drawing down local resource stocks and
accumulating carbon dioxide in the atmosphere.

Global warming
Most of global warming is caused by increasing concentrations of
greenhouse gases and other human activities.
During 21st century, global surface temperature is likely to rise a further
0.3 to 1.7 °C for their lowest emissions scenario
2.6 to 4.8 °C for their highest

for the Electricity Sector (2012)
∗ If we continue business as usual, in 2020 the Lebanese energy consumption
would reach 30,000 GWh, the double of 2010’s level
∗ Alternative option would be to gradually shift to a more green scenario using
less fossil energy for electricity production and increasing by the same token
the recourse to renewable energy.
∗ 2020 objective is to have 12% of electricity produced from renewable energy
∗ Lebanon, by signing the Kyoto protocol in November 2006, has committed to
reduce the CO2 emission
∗ Pollution in Lebanon is mostly generated by transportation (45%), industry
(25%), others (30%)
