IIGCC appoints head of EU policy
London, 1st May, 2015
The Institutional Investors Group on Climate Change, which represents more than 100 European
investors worth a combined €10 trillion, has appointed Martin Schoenberg as head of EU policy.
Martin will be responsible for developing IIGCC’s policy engagement at EU level, working closely with
IIGCC’s members and the policy group.
Martin was previously head of policy at Climate Change Capital. He has also worked for the German
Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation and Nuclear Safety focusing on the
European Council. At the ministry, he prepared meetings of the EU Environment Council with a
particular emphasis on climate-energy policy. Before that he worked for the United Nations on
climate-energy issues in Brussels (United Nations Environment Programme) and Bonn (United
Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change).
Martin holds a BA (Hons) in Social and Political Sciences from the University of Cambridge, an MSc in
International Relations from the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE), and an MBA
from the University of Cambridge.
“We are delighted that Martin has joined the IIGCC team”, said Stephanie Pfeifer, IIGCC’s CEO.
“Martin’s extensive knowledge of climate and energy policy and investment background will help us
ensure that the views of institutional investors on the need for transition to a low carbon economy
are clearly heard and understood by policy makers across Europe in this vital year for climate policy”.
IIGCC is grateful to the Church of England National Investing Bodies and USS who have helped to
fund this position. Details of other funders will be released at the IIGCC’s AGM in June.
