The Blood vessel
Arteries (singular: artery) carry blood away from
the heart and, eventually, to the capillaries.
 Arteries contain muscle tissue, which allows them
to vary their diameters.
Vasoconstriction (a narrowing of the artery's
diameter)
Vasodilation (an enlarging of the artery's diameter).
The Vessel
Arterioles are the smallest arteries. Arteries and
arterioles connect to the capillaries
Veins carry blood back to the heart
Disorders and Procedures
 Angiitis (also vasculitis), inflammation of a blood vessel
 Angiospasm, spasm in blood vessels
 Angiostenosis, narrowing of a blood vessel
 Arteriosclerosis , hardening of the arteries
 Vasospasm , spasm in blood vessels (angiospasm)
 Angiotomy (incision into a blood vessel)
